I want to start sorting out my DAS in a few weeks time, I've booked my theory for the 22nd, and I've been doing some ringing round the area to get quotes.

PRIDE is the very good company I did my CBT with, very nice guy who rides a Blackbird, and is a courier. They quoted me £375 for a 3 day course, and test.

I phoned another guy, David Hart, who really would not stop talking, but was recommending lessons all the way. He said 5 2 hour lessons at £40 each, including bike hire, and then the test, should be enough. So that would come out at £260!

Interested by this, I phone up PRIDE again and they quoted £23.50 an hour including hire; frankly I might take the £3.50 an hour hit and go with them, as I already know the bloke.

What would you recommend? David Hart says you get a lot of experience, and also said that once I've had a lesson or 2 I can just hire the bike for 2 hours and blatt around for £18, so I don't have to spend all my time paying top notch just to get the hang of riding again.

But PRIDE say that the disadvantage of taking lessons is that you can easily forget what you've learnt the previous week, so you can keep coming back week after week and not get that far.

What do you lot think? If the intensive, expensive scheme will help me pass quickly and easily, I'll do it. But I won't pass any quicker if lessons are as effective, as I could start those in a week or 2, as opposed to the month or so I'd have to wait to do my DAS.

I'd go intensive, you wont have the time to forget anything.

Worked for me anyway.

I'd say intensive too. You get in the zone better. Plus, you'll get far more riding in because you'll do around 6hrs in the saddle per day. The examiner also can be of more help, because he too will get to know your weakness' better.

And, it's really enjoyable spending all day just riding around Smile

Go for it. Thumbs Up

Intensive - Get it over and done with in one week, and you'll never have to worry about it ever again (unless of course you're a naughty boy and get your license revoked).

Is it me or this fairly unanimous! Laughing It's conceivable that the guy wanted me to pay more if I took lessons; if I'd done the lessons and was then told I needed loads more. It does worry me that he said 10 hours of lessons, and I would probably be getting around 20 hours from an intensive course. Thinking Weird.

Intensive it is, I'll book it next week! Mr. Green Dance!

If you do lessons, make sure you get in the habit of riding that way all the time. To start with I didnt, but its much better if you get in the habit of riding the test way all the time.

+1 for intensive.

You could look at it as a mini holiday, where you get to blat about on a big bike for a few days and get a nice certificate at the end of it. At which point you don't have to worry about that pesky test anymore.

Best holiday I've had in ages. Very Happy

Do the intence course, don't be a fool, and take note of what the instructor is teaching you.

All the best,

Ian

Do the intensive course but DO NOT book more than 5-6 hours per day. After a while you become very tired and start to muck up and not take in much more advice. 3 days is the average people on a CBT with experience go for.
