zxr400 cam chain, how much?

Hello all,

I'm taking my bike to the local garage to have the cam chain replaced, hopefully it will stop that annoying rattle the bike has done 24k so I think it might be about time, how much should i be looking to pay out? I have heard its something like £60 for the part and 4 hours labour?

can somone please give me an idea I dont want to be ripped off

Labour is normally about £30 an hour where i go, so that should be a £120 kick in the balls.

It's not actually that hard to do it yourself, try and get a manual off eBay (even the one's on CD will show you) and work your way through it.

I would of thought you'll get stung pretty bad at a garage, and AFAIK cam chain's are only about £20 anyway?

£20? that sounds a cheap for a camchain to be honest I've no intention of doing it myself mainly because I suck at mechanics Smile

Hi

Think leicester_city21 was quoted about £230 (including collecting the bike) to replace the cam chain and tensioner on his ZXR400. On his the tensioner had failed and left the cam chain with loads of play.
