What determins the sound of an engine/exhaust?? For instance ART cans are really loud and have a certain tone but standard ones are quiet and sound wet/whirry.
Why is a 2t really hair dryer like??

Its all down to the silencer, have you seen inside a stock silencer? Its like a maze of tubes, sending the exhaust gasses back and forth through the silencer to kill the noise off.
This link is for a car type, but motorbike ones follow the same design, but smaller!

Race cans (like the ART one you mention, are just a straight through tube in the middle with the baffle material round the ouside.
