Am I the only one that is noticing more and more cars that either have no brake lights, or the headlight aim is well out? Or one headlight bulb has blown?

Do people not maintain ther vehicles anymore?

Its sometimes hard to notice if you have a light out in a car, specialy if you drive in a built up area. Also you need someone to go to the back, to check your bulbs.

What I do is weekly, reverse up to the glass at work, thus I can see all my lights in the mirror (ie at night), same for the front.

Stopped someone at a supermarket recently to tell them they had a light out.

(Least they've got 2 lights though, my bike only has 1, thinking of carrying a spare with me at all times).

They don't maintain them anymore - can't really blame them, some drivers are totally oblivious to the fact that they're actually driving on a road with other road users on it. I've seen so many cars driving around town recently, gone 5pm, with no lights on what so ever

How can you even seen your dash without the lights on? I guess the radio still lights up.

But ot be fair, how easy is it to check if a car brake light is working?

I just assume the lights and that on my bike work so i guess they do too!

I have seen a lot of cars with one light recently.
Also at this time of year it gets dark about 4pm and it happens so quickly(seems to be in the space of 10mins) that people don't notice thier lights aren't on if they're in town.

i see people driving round at 1AM with no lights on at all .

i can honestly say that one of my rear lights is out, but i can't replace it as blows everytime i switch my lights on.

To think, there are sections in the theory and practical tests about this. Maybe people just shouldn't be on the roads if they're not going to make sure they're safe to be there. The most alarmed I have been is when someone had had their brake light lens broken, every time they braked, it looked as though there was an oncoming vehicle 100 yards directly in front of me.

There was also an incident with the man walking towards me on my side of the road with one of those million candle torches. That was a headscrew.

Or people with their rear fog light on, when its not foggy (with no front fogs on). Again, how can they not know its on? Surely a light on the dash is illuminated when this is activated?

Pretty sure it's an offence to use rear fogs at night especially if it isn't even foggy.

To play devils advocate for a minute, they don't make it easy for you to maintain your own car. Everything is so complex, requiring special tools and electronic gizmos that a lot of people, understandably, don't even attempt home maintainance. Hell, on an A class Mercedes, you can't even pop the bonnet without a special tool.

On my last car, you had to dismantle half the front end to change a headlight bulb (you had to remove the radiator grille amongst other things). To do that you needed an unusually long screwdriver and a very stubby socket set. It took about half an hour to do so I can understand why people don't bother.

Funny we were discussing this in my mates car a couple hours ago. The amount around with blown bulbs is ridiculous.

I have driven around a couple of times with my head light off on my bike. I was in town so didn't really notice and I only noticed when people started beeping at me. It's hard with a 125 as the head light isn't very bright. Am thinking of taping the switch to on as it is easily knocked off.
The thing with car drivers is the think they are imortal in their little tin box that they don't care about maintenance as much at motorcyclists.

I pulled alongside another biker earlier in the week to let him know that his back light had blown.

I've had my back light blow mid-journey this winter myself.

It's got 20 individual LED's so if one blows, i still got 19 working ones.

I have a 10 minute bus ride through the centre of town on a double decker bus to get to school in the morning. My friends wonder why i constantly hit the roof when i see people with NO BRAKE LIGHTS AT ALL. Yesterday on my way to the bus stop there was a woman reversing out of her driveway, and she didnt have any reversing lights! (and no she wasnt free wheeling). I dunno, but things like that really get on my tits.

I am forever behind vehicles with a brake light out, the other day whilst I was out delivering at work I followed a young girl in ford and both of her rear brake lights were out, very dangerous so when we came to traffic lights I actually got out and informed her incase she didnt know

Most of the cars i mot have lights out, usually sidelights or dipped beam lights. The most common failure is headlamp aim and brake lights i would think, headlamp aim being out of alignment IS usually caused by the owner fitting their own h7 bulbs.
H7 bulbs are fitted to the majority of cars nowadays (that dont have hid lights), they only sit in one way because they have a little lug on them. But you can get them sort of in and the spring closed when they are upside down, so people put them in and think they have saved 10 quid by fitting them theirselves when in actual fact they are blinding every mofo on the road. Personal pet hate as you can tell lol. Reversing lights are not part of the mot so alot of people can get away with not having them. Although if spotted while mot'ing it would normally be an advise. Brake lights stuck on can also be annoying, i usually see it on rover mgf's.

Another thing that gets on my wick is people who drive around at night with their sidelights on and their front fogs on... i mean duh do they not realise that they have dipped beams and that to have front fogs on when its not foggy (100m vis or less) is illegal.
