As the title suggests i need to adjust the chain, so first need to loosen the eccentric bearing pinch bolt, but its solid. Is there anything i should be doing? why is the bolt hollow? Does it loosed the normal way round?

When I undid mine it was rock solid, I was thinking the same as you, but I stuck a masive spanner on it and gave it a hefty whack with a mallet, that loosened it off.

My dad had a Revere 600 and I know the bolt was a pig to undo, he says that it unscrews the normal (anti clockwise) way, it is very high torque and you will need a long bar to do it, he had to take it into work and use a 3 foot bar lol. Put a socket on it, then a ratchet, preferably without an extension bar, the use a piece of scaffolding or something to slot over the ratchet. Hope this helps mate, good luck, and don't give yourself a hernia doing it!

tried using a mallet, this thing is solid! i have been spraying it with wd40 a few times a day in the hope some will soak in and help when i give it another go. its crazy, i'm frightned of rounding or even worse snapping the head off if its under too much pressure. i'l try with a nice big extention bar later.

cheers guys

Just out of interest what are you talking about?

What with the BROS being CHAIN drive and the NTV being SHAFT drive.

quik_d

Take off the rear wheel and use a 18-24 inch breaker bar.

That's a good point, I had my rear wheel off at the time, not sure if you'd get enough leverage with the wheel in situe.

Stick a decent sized spanner or 1/2" ratchet on it, then crouch down and give it a good kick. I don't think I've ever undone this bolt by hand - Always use my foot.

Just make sure don't knock the bike over (hold onto it with one hand or get a mate to stand on the other side).

If you're a pansy and think that's overkill, then the best way to undo it by hand would be to sit on the floor on the right hand side of the bike. Stick your feet against the rear wheel and pull on your ratchet with all yer might.

WOO-HOO Mr. Green ........

Just got the bolt undone. I took the rear wheel off, got a 1/2" rachet on it with an extension bar and gave it some welly. a few wrenches and crack! i come loose. Obviouslky the wd40 i had been spraying in had done some good as it was on the bolts' thread.

Quite chuffed with myself, got the wheel off, rear brake cleaned and pads changed, chain tensioned and wheel back on, all by myself.

And dont laugh! I'd pretty mechanically retarded, but can do hell of a lot more than i could, my dad used to do it all!

Thumbs Up heers for the help guys

Ah crap, I do apologise! Same principle though, lots of leverage. Sorry, been spending too much time with the missus (she's blonde!)
