i'm considering one of 3 projects i would like to do in the near future. they are...

piaggio ape (honda cx500 engine, most likely) with honda blackbird fairing worked into the front end, and R5 style rear wheel arches built out with extended rear axle,

xtc 250/500 (large 2t V twin) no fairing, low, very forward clip ons, likely shortened swingarm and rear pod subframe shortened, petrol tank is small and behind a very forward seat, nothing covering the frame infront of the rider

mega honda vision (probably a motocross engine, 400 up to 600cc single) bottom end of a steel framed motocross bike removed and welded into the rear of a moped frame which the helmet box has been removed to accomidate that engine, to which a pit bike swingarm is added, and the original moped wheel returned.

which one sounds like the better project? all are designed to stand out as much as possible, i like things different Very Happy

I like the sound of the last one. Have you ever heard of the Hardly Rideable Motor Scooter club? They have built some seriously wacky scooters in their time.

https://www.hardlyrideable.co.uk/

For example (pretty sure this is the one that is out to something silly like 450cc and cracked the ton down the 1/4 mile at santa pod):

PIMP MY APE!

If your looking at a cx engine the 650 engine is quite significantly meatyer, better designed too, but will take more sourceing than a z/a/b/ engine..

Dunno what you should do, has it got to be practical in any way? if its just for a larf and your never goign to need to use it then do whatever, if its got to cart you and other about in relative comfort then maybe think about one of the more sensible ones Razz

Have fun whatever you pick.

My dad has a cx.
Wouldn't it be harder to work with because of the shaft?

i'm not 100% sure but i think the piaggio ape is shaft driven, so it will probably be simpler to put one of those on than a chain driven one, thats my guess. Also its a tractor of an engine, should make the ape very useable, and a fair bit quicker than standard too Very Happy

so far i'm leanient to the ape tho, but i dunno if i've got room for it here.
