Can anyone help here,

I think that all I have to do is get my hands on a stock - ie Quiet Can for my ZX6R, then put my nice noisy one back on afterwards yeh??

Complete bone question - How nis the can fixed to the Exhaust? Welded, strapped??

(My bike is Garaged up for the winter so I cant go and look.)

Any help greatly appreciated.

Ta

I'm not sure which model you've got.

most ZX6Rs have a 3 pin bolt on system.

Depending wich model you've got there are otehr models that will fit your bike. I've got a ZX6R can on my Daytona 600.

Your's is the three bolt system.

It's a simple slip off, slip on procedure, takes 10 minutes at the most. The original is best becasue it has the threaded screw ends fitted in unlike aftermarket ones where you actually need to put screws in to hold it on.

No need to get another can, just buy a Db Killer and put it in the end of your open can for the MOT then take it out afterwards. They're around £15 from various can and parts companies.
That's if your can hasn't got "Not For Road Use" etc on it Sad

Why do you need the standard can for an MOT?

I had a performance exhaust on my Scooby, as does everyone here in 'chav' Essex. Why is it one rule for cars and another for bikes? Confused

Depends where you go for an MOT some places are shit hot and fail any 'not fot road use' end can, others don't give a rats ass and pass anything. Best thing to do is take it around a few MOT centers and ask if it will pass or fail. If they say it will pass book it in with them for the MOT. Wink

In theory you could fail cars aswell, but ive never failed a car for being too loud, and probably never will unless a car is so loud it gives me a headache. Laughing

Reason for failure: silencer in such a condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a silencer in average condition

Probably because we hear bikes going at full chat more often than cars, well i do anyway. I live quite close to a long dual carriageway and often hear bikes at the weekend giving it large. Dont get me wrong i love hearing them, but not everyone does. So perhaps thats why they are harder on bikes ?

Every second biker and his mother seem to have fitted a race can onto their machine. Every five hundredth car might have a different exhaust system fitted. There're also the issues of practicality and cost. A few bolts are all that hold a lot of cans on bikes. Removable baffles are even easier to fit/ remove.

Even replacing the silencer on a car requires getting underneath and getting dirty, or getting it up on a hydraulic lift. Either way, it's not easy, and most cars aren't anything other than commuting fayre, let alone high performance toys.
