Why are trike riders exempt from wearing helmets? I'm sure the law states that the driver or any vehicle without a windscreen must wear a helmet. I've seen people driving ariel atoms with helmets, and was informed that it was the law. Any help appreciated

Because the helmet law only applies to "motor bicycles" :-
