Yes, your insurance would probably be cancelled as well and they will try to give you the lowest amount possible.

Depends what your policy says. Often on a comprehensive policy the excess is different for fire/theft compared to if you crash the bike (and it also changes depending on whether or not it was solen from a garage and whether your alarm was on, if you declared all that stuff when you took out the policy). If the policy is TP, fire & theft then yes, they will take it out of your money.

Probably isn't worth it.

In fact, if you claim, you may end up losing money in the long term relative to just accepting the lost.

So, TPO next year then Confused.

There robbing cunts. I'm paying £1300 on a Z750 with cia (which where the cheapest).

Wanted to trade my bike in the other week for a speed tripple, so got a quote online and they wanted £1400 fc, thought not too bad £100 more, I'll phone them up to see how much to swap policy over for the remainder. No sorry you got a no quote probally due to only having 1yrs ncb, you can still take out a new policy though (which means i'll still have 1yrs ncb as I have 4 months left on the current policy so i wouldn't gain another years ncb).

They've gotta be making some money these insuarance companies. I cancelled a policy half way through on a vfr 400. Paid £400 for it originaly, got £10 back.

Because people pay for it.

If some people would pay £100 a time for a McDonalds burger, I'm sure they would sell them for that to those that were willing to pay.

Excesses on bike insurance are always quite large due to bikes being high theft frequency vehicles, having said that £450 is quite a lot especially since your premium is a fair bit as well, may be worth shopping around for a new quote.

Insurance companies need to reclaim premium from anywhere they can to offset the large claims they have to pay out. Say for example you get knocked off your bike by a car and the car driver is at fault, you are entitled to claim personal injury and loss of earnings etc which can easily result in £100,000 claims, the insurance company has to recoup this money from other individual policy holders.

Its crappy but its the way it works, its the people that drive uninsured and put in false claims that buggers things up for the rest of us though Thumbs Down

hi there

under financial services authority rules you MUST have the excess given to you at point of sale. you may be able to get something back from them as they have breached FSA guidelines. howver, they will say you should have checked your documents and called back if there was a problem, so it will be tough.

remember, be polite if you go ahead and complain. the customer service person will be sick of clearing up the sales teams errors/false selling. They aren't the one who miss-sold the policy.

As for cancelling, they shouldnt as you have entered a 12 month contract (presumably 12 months anyway) and are paying for such. what they could do is remove the excess from your payout. and also remove any remaining installments before giving you a final settlement figure. if you payed up front then only the excess will be deducted.

as said the policy is normally a 12 month one. so if you've used say 4 months, you have 8 months left, put your new bike on the policy and you should only have to pay any additional amount or admin fee. you may even get a refund if the buike is a honda cg!!!!

PS: you can always phone the company and ask them to lower it in future, it will cost more though

hope this helps a bit

Paul

they arew in the wrong. However, if you didnt contact them within 14 days from receiving your documents. you are just as much to blame.

however, its always worth calling and asking for compensation for being missold. be firm but fair and NICE. remember you will have to say you want it, but dont take no for an answer, even after speaking to a manger. after that they will have a customer complaints team, get it referred to them. ask for something like £200 (£250 wouldve been a more reasonable excess) but expect closer to £100 - joint liability ya see!?

if they dont play ball say you will speak to the financial services authority. contact me if you need their number. i'll dig it out oncwe back at work

Think it depends on bike and where you live and your age.

I only passed my test last year and my insurance is only £320 fully comp for an ER-5.

To be honest, I wouldn't buy another bike without getting insurance quote, same for car.

One thing I did find with bike insurance is unlike car insurance, when i was in the position of selling my last bike and buying my Er5 they wouldn't let me have the 2 bikes on the 1 policy. Normaly with a car insurance, they will let you pay 10 or 20 quid and have 2 cars on for a couple of weeks, i've done that twice in the past.
