Anyone fitted them to their bikes?

I have an ER-5 and have been looking at ways to improve it, I dont want to get a better bike until I get more experience with this one as I am quite new to biking.

So the £30 quid for a new air filter, worth it or not?

You don't get a massive increase in power, it drinks petrol and makes the bike louder.

Not unless you're matching it to a couple of hundred pounds of exhaust, jetting and dyno time.

I was informed that K&N gives a marginal increase of air-flow in a standard airbox. Best/only (?) advantage is being able to wash the filter, instead of replacing it as you would an OE part.

I pretty much guarantee that changing the filter to a K&N will not give you any noticible change in performance at all.
Fit race exhausts and a dynojet kit and the bike will pick up a couple of horsepower and be a lot smoother, a noticible difference in ease of riding, but the actual performance increase even then will be marginal, nothing you'll be able to tell just by feel on the road.
My advice would be to spend your money on the suspension instead, the bike will be more stable and will corner harder and faster, the brakes will work better, and tyre grip and life will improve. New monorate fork springs and a rear spring will cost less than a hundred quid and will transform the bike, a difference you definately will be able to feel!

Coupled with an exhaust and jet modifications, won't the K&N 'performance' by masked anyway? I'm running a Dynojet kit with a full Yoshi system with a standard airbox and filter, the increase in performance (espeically midrange) could easily cover the addition of a K&N.

I guess the only real way of answering that is by trying one now to see whether it would make a difference.

Makes no difference, I have same bike, can't tell the difference when its in or the normal one is in.

Cant tell the difference in performance but you can wash them, Saves ever buying an airfilter again. If you come to sell the bike then just sell the filter sep, they'll always fetch £20-30 on Ebay.
