Hi to everybody.

Is there someone that have tried to built an homemade frame for a bike to use on track?

I've just finished a jig to do it and would have opinions, hints etc.

Thanks, Luigi.

Sounds like a lot of effort, I'm sure bike manufactors put lot of R&D into making a frame good, Just one of those.

chopped and built a trike for road use and built some off road frames, mainly modding for bigger engines but cant see building a frame very wise if you havnt done it before,
its ok but theres whe wheelbase, rake and loads of other things to take into account,
at the end of the day its your life your putting at risk,
study up on the whole thing

read up on harris frames Smile

The best way would be to buy a frame that is basicly what your after then modify it to suit yourself, building from scratch is a big job, Dan Thumbs Up

Hi

Lot of work to build a frame. Don't know anyone who has tried it, but there are UK companies who build one off frames (don't think Harris will anymore, but Spondon Engineering will).

All the best

I would try Tony Foales site (and get his book), plus there is a
site called "eurospares" IIRC that has a fair bit of stuff on track frames, also go to amazon and search for "racing motorcycle" there are couple of books there as well. I have links for the Eurospares at work, I'll try to remember to post them. For the practical aspects of frame building

might be worth a look as well. HTH

My main thought would be that if you have to ask about it, then it will probably be a waste of time and money.

These days manufacturers do make very good frames, so trying to make a performance one that's better is going to be hard.

Now if you're talking choppers, where they seem to intentionally make the performance and handling worse, then it's not such an issue.

making a custom frame for a crazy low slung chopper seems a good idea, but making something for use on a track is quite different. Handling needs to be a lot tighter on the track.

If i were you I'd start small by making a custom frame for a mini moto. If you can get that to be any better than the frame on a standard one, go ahead with a big bike.

Actually if i were you, I wdnt try to make a frame for a track bike. You could make something radically different for novelty value tho. Like a bike that you ride lying face down which is really low to the ground.
