I'm trying to see if anyone is interested in doing the London to Brighton cycle ride on the 18th of June 2006. It's all for The British Heart Foundation so a good cause. The ride start's at Clapham common and ends on Madeira drive in Brighton, around 58 miles. It's a fairly relaxed ride apparently so anyone can do it.

Entry's are being taken now so if your interested sign up now.

All info can be found here, https://www.bhf.org.uk/events/index.asp?secID=12&secondlevel=1005&thirdlevel=1015&artID=6150

I'm thinking about this, I'd probably organise it later rather than sooner

\o.

So, are we going to enter as a team?

Think this would definitely be a call for 'BCF Racing' - thought they'll probably then think we're all pro competitive cyclists from the British Cycling Federation Confused.

I saw this last year in Brighton. Myself, Joe, and Monksreadus almost keeled over in 30+ degree heat in the ensuing traffic jam.

Had to use a short stretch of the course myself to avoid blowing the radiator, bastard cyclists Razz

Don't think my Santa Cruz Bullit is suited to 58 mile road rides.

And I'd have to get down there with it from North Wales anyway.

I'm willing to enter under a BCF team banner.

Have spoken to some people about it and apparently due to the amount of participants you are unable to achieve any sort of speed. It's a leisure ride and nothing else. Your bike should be ok if you wish to go. There's lots of stalls and pubs along the way that people stop off at according to those I spoke to.

I have lycra but I'm no pro, I'm taking it easy, especially as it is likely to be very hot. Can Bendy drive alongside with a cooler and ice-creams. Laughing

I'd be on a Scott Nitrous, nice and bouncy. Apparently train operators in area not accepting bikes on that day, so I may as well ride up from Devon

Get to Reading and you can have a lift to/from Reading in a van if I'm getting there in a van Smile.

Haha that sounds ideal G, Reading is the last stop before London.

I hate the process of raising sponsorship though.

Does anyone know the route at the London end?

Erm, just like to point out 'BCF Racing' is the /motorbike/ racing name which I use.
Seeing that I need a motorised form of transport to get me around a mile long track ten times, I'm not the fittest of people, so not actually going to intend to be doing this competitively! Smile

I'd like to give that a go!

I'd need to figure out why the pedal on my bike keeps on falling off though...

So how many of us is that so far?

I have a Giant FCR2 hybrid road bike. It has thin wheels, no suspension etc but it does have straight bars. Do you think I will be alright on this? I've never done that sort of distance on it before.

If my plans come to fruition, that'll be an infinitely more sensible option than my bike. Not sure if they will yet though.

Thin wheels and no suspension will be fine, I'm sure there's some out there doing it on full suspension bikes!

My girlfriend is interested aswell (not a BCF member), any other partners interested?

I guess we'd all apply individually and then meet up somewhere? (I'm down in Bournemouth)

A Giant FCR2 will be perfect Illusion. It's a road-ride and fairly gentle. I'll be on a Ridgeback Genesis, a road bike with flat bars, just like yours.

@byke95. If you check the link in my first post it has info on busses going from Brighton to Clapham common in the morning, they are free I beleive but I assume places will be limited. I will be asking a few people, pretty sure none will actually do it.

@UKRobT309. Pubs and stalls along the way for stops apparently. The WI set up cake stalls which I shall be frequenting. Smile Can meet up at the start if you like, we shall arrange it closer to the actual event though.

As G said entry's need to be sent off ASAP, spaces go quick.

Anyone else interested? Sammyboy, Sparks you both cycle dont you?

EDIT: Another thought is of shirt's. Are we having BCF team t-shirts or just wearing whatever.

You can enter as a team.

One way or another I'm sure we could russle up some kind of tshirts if we were entering as a team.

Have just been reading the application form and it requires everyone to put down if they are in a team and also it's leader.

Would Saying that everybody need's to confirm by Sunday 15th if they wish to be in the team be ok? I suggest G for team leader as the name is from his bike racing team. The next day everyone send's their stuff off all going well. Also any preferrences for a start time?

Edit: I also misread about the bus service from Brighton to Clapham Common (the start), it is £20 and it seem's you need to put that down in the application form.

My mate tony is doing this but he already cycles 10 miles a day to get to work so can't see this being much of a problem for him. i think he'll be riding back aswell.
