i have a zxr400. its been sat for a while and the oil is filled with petrol. could this be because the floats are set up wrong or would it just be because the needles are setup wrong/worn? i know you cant adjust the main ones but what about the idle setting would that do it?
Any help would be great thanx
Ben

Do you have a prime position on the fuel tap? If so, leaving it in this position could achieve the petrol in the oil problem. It could also be a faulty fuel tap allowing fuel to leak through.

If it's neither of those, then I would say a sticking float needle or a holed float that is sinking.

Cheers

Is the bike running on all 4 barrels?

Had the same thing a few weeks ago with a 600 Bandit. The bike was only running on 3, first thing i checked was the diaphram on the barrel that wasn't firing, it was ok.

Then the owner said it had been using lots of fuel and the oil level had increased. Shocked I took the float bowl off only to find a very small bit of alloy swarf stuck in the needle valve. It was not alowing it to seal and fuel was getting through, overflowing out of the bowl into the intake manifold and down the barrel past the rings and into the sump.
Started first time sfter putting it all back together.

Don't forget to change the oil when you have fixed it. Wink

the float valves can wear and cause a weep into the cylinders, the seat, the needle or O-ring can wear.

the fuel tap on the ZXR is vacuum, and if its sticking open or on prime it wil flood as the float valves are not designed for a on/off fuel tap.

to stop it flooding, set the tap to off, or failing that, if possible, get a set of mole grips onto the fuel hose.
