I see that people instantly jump on the super sports bandwagon. Neutral

There's many angles you can look at this from - none of which are wrong.

The NSR125 inspired new generations, including many forum members on here - the CBR is set to do the same...no matter how slow and ugly it may or my not be... Laughing

The XJ900 has been my favorite bike thus far, though I've not picked up my R1100S yet so hopefully that's set to change.

The NTV650 has been reliably going for years in various forms with many uses...

BUT - by a long way surely the humble CB500 has got a winning place?

DKW RT125. Nothing special in itself but provided the basis of the designs used by all modern motorcycle companies at one time or another. Been made in one form or another since the 1920s and has provided cheap, reliable transport for millions over the years. The 'grandad' of modern motorcycles.

Ever heard of a GPZ900? Pre-dates the CBR by three years (and was the first production bike to crack 150mph).

Crank design and port timing is a scaled down version of the RT125 first manufactured in Yugoslavia. Your Bantam is a copy of the RT in almost every detail (but more shoddily put together).

Hooray for British engineering! I would rather say it was the Tomos rather than the Bantam Laughing . At least the tomos started and kept going, on the Bantam you were lucky if it started and well....kept going Laughing .

Super sports I would say Honda CBR900RR Fireblade, looks extra gorgeous in Urban Tiger scheme, and best old school bike I would say the Yamaha RD250/350LC. Utter loony bikes, immensely popular back in the 80's.

Depends what "best" means

Hondas goldwing is the best touring bike of all time

The honda c90 is the best basic* bike of all time

Some sports bikes may be great on a track or fairweather good tarmac rideout, but absoloute shit to ride every day, all bikes are a compromise, some compromise comfort for speed/handleing/lowweight some compromise speed e.t.c. for comfort

Or take a goldwing or ducati down a greenlane, your going to think its pretty shit compared to a dt125...

I'd have to have at least 3 bikes to do certain jobs. My perfect everyday + touring bike would be a pan european.

*Cheap to run, nothing to go wrong, cheap to produce e.t.c.

The C90 is the best bike of all time, closely followed by the CG125. How many other bikes have even come close to those two in terms of sales, indestructability and longevity? Smile

Dont know if anyone saw it but the number one bike according to tv was the Honda cub 50. They changed the oil for chip oil and it still ran fine. They even dropped it off a building and apart from wheel damage it still ran fine.
