Hey guys, a mate of mine just got hold of a Yamaha RXS 100 this evening. were just wondering on the legalities of his riding though.

He has a CBT which he got in 2000 but has since expired however he has a full car licence which is current.
obviously he will ride the bike "restricted" and with L plates with no pillions, however, can he legally do this or is he required to take a CBT again before being insured??
thanks guys Thumbs Up Karma

im thinking he would have to take it again! even though he has a driving lisence it depends on when he got it! but seeing as he did the CBT before im pretty sure he will have to do it again!!

He won't be licenced to ride the bike, as he will need a current CBT to ride it.

If he gets caught without it he could be charged with driving with no licence & insurance (as most insurance companies specify that the policy holder should have a licence to ride the bike).

Think he still needs to have a valid CBT, the driving license would just count as the provisonal which is also needed. Thumbs Up

All those with a provisional licence ('A') for a motorcycle (full car licence or not) are required by law to have a valid CBT cert to make the licence valid to allow them to ride a motorcycle which is as follows:

50cc but not exceeding 125cc with 'L' plates.

The exception to the rule is those that have passed their car test before 1990 who then can ride a 50cc moped without the need to have a CBT cert or 'L' plates, but if they want to ride anything bigger up to 125cc, then the above then applies.

Umm, that should be Febuary 2001.

Anyone who passed before then can ride a moped with no L-Plates with their full licence.

My wife did her car test after then, but when I read it, I think if she just wants to do a ped, she only has to do the CBT once?

Maybe i'm wrong.

From the web site.

"From 1 February 2001, a person passing a car driving test will be required to undertake a moped riding course before they can ride a moped on the road. A code number 122 is printed on the driving licence. This is only valid after a driver has successfully completed a basic moped training course.

Persons who already hold a full car licence, or who passed a car test before 1 February 2001, are not required to take training before riding a moped. But they are encouraged to do so. "

From looks of this, if you have a car license, you only need to do it once, not every 2 years, like the ped boys.
