Leo Vince race pipe and NRG

Right.

I have a 54 plate NRG Sport LC version that does about 52 on the flat

A mate has an 01 (Y) NRG Sport Air Cooled version, which does about 49 on the flat.

we were both using std exhausts and clutch derestriction (washer behind variator)

My mate just got given a leo vince pipe for his, thats a bit battered about - nice big ish dent in the side and so on (right where it starts to widen)

We tested it and noticed a very slight difference - it then did around 50 on the flat.

Just coming home from westbury on the main road, and all of a sudden, he flew past me fairly quickly considering my bikes faster than his!

Any ideas on what this could be? and would a new Leo vince on my NRG require rollers and bigger jets as i know some require bigger jets and some need rollers, though i have been told that NRG's don't always need any of this.

btw:

a sports exhaust such as a Leo V ZX or ZR will improve the bike performance. Best thing to do it experiment with rollers to get the bike set up to your standerds.

On my typhoon 50 i had a Gianelli Extra exhaust and 5.5g rollers and it was brilliant for mid range and top end.

Washer behine the variator gone too.
My mates one says 60 so i know thats not right!
Yeah so i dont need bigger jets then..
I was also told putting rollers with a race pipe in an NRG goes horribly wrong and it goes worse?

Rollers must be changed to suit the bike.

ive put a Gianelli reverse with 4.5g rollers in someones nrg and it revved by 1000rpm more but took off nice and quick.

So may need rollers, but may not then. and the size depends on the bike and pipe right?

thats right. Standerd rollers are most probly gona be too heavy for sports pipe to work properly tbh.

Also, im guessing its better to get a chrome one, simply for looks, and they don't rust like the others?

Yeh the chrome ones are nice. The non chrome ones will rust liek hell. Let me see if i got a pic of my old one all rusty...

I know my mates doesnt need rollers in it, though it does blow a bit, its a bodged one, been repaired.
Also would blowing reduce performance much? if any at all?

If i were to get one it would have to be chrome and carbon, as i have a yellow and black ped.

It wouldnt work to its full potential if its blowing. and yes your mates does needs different size rollers to get the pipe to its full potential aaswell.

So if i were to buy one NRG specific, like you usually do anyway, would it come with all the right rollers and stuff to go with it?

They usualy do.

Some include clutch springs too.

so what do the clutch springs do?
as i had some for my jog when i fitted my technigas to it (which i funnily enough still have) as i didnt have rollers with it, and didnt realise it was rollers i needed!
Never did fit them as i ceased the bike up for the 3rd time or more so traded it in quick!

Clutch springs make the bike idle a little higher and take off a little better.

Try and get a contra spring too (the big one in the middle of the clutch) and it will idle soo much better.

Clutch springs have nothing to do with idling. The stiffer the clutch springs the more revs you need to get moving. Stiff springs mean great standing starts but can be a bit crap in traffic or in bad weather.

If your mates pipe is blowing/has a hole it will be running lean and he stands a chance if siezing the piston.

You will need a new jet, the pipe will make quite a difference on the NRG due to the standard pipe being a straight though, and the air recirc system. If you don't re-jet you'll be picking chunks of piston out of your arse after a hundred miles. The exhaust should come with rollers, or at least the ones on ebay do. If in doubt, ask someone at www.taffspeed.co.uk, they got a piaggio zip to 89mph on the flat, and that was only a 70cc.

Get it set up properly, and you'll absolutely cane your mate all over the place. I wish i had my old NRG instead of the speedfight.

Why bother? It's not going to make much difference really, Im sure your efforts (and cash) could be better invested in tweaking your scooter from 51mph to 56mph...

For that matter, loose a bit of weight, that ought to count for 1 or 2mph

I would personally say do what im doing, wait till ur 17, and buy a bigger bike, instead of spending way more than a 125 would cost, for the same speed on a 50.

all of leo vince top range pipes like the ZX etc will come with the appriopriate rollers and clutch springs to even u and even mix of better accel and maybe a couple mph on top speed. if u check out www.scooter-attack.com u will find loads for your ped there. id recommend you get the POLINI FUNKY exhaust as they r better than leo vince and they sound good for a 50cc!!! and they r only about the same price as the LV!!
