Quick question, on the ER5 I noticed that there is a link pipe between the downpipes, what's it do ?

Cheers

It's a balance pipe, equalizes the pressure between the exhausts and supposed to smooth the pulses to give better low down power when close to the manifolds. Lot of old Brit bikes used to have them, don't see them as much now but they are about still.

It rusts away in winter road conditions with frightening rapidity and means you have to buy an after market 2-1 system six months earlier than you would have done if you waited for the rest of the exhaust to rot off.

The KLE has a two into one exhaust and so doesn't need a link pipe. You only need one if you have a two into two (well you don't actually NEED one at all, but a 2-2 is better with one).

The ER'5 is a 2-1 though Confused . guess Kawasaki found that it helps with something somewhere. Maybe emissions are lower with it?

It'll rot anyway, so just buy a decent system for it! Thumbs Up
