The DT isnt built for top speed, so if speed is what you're after, get a different bike.

Personally, i would rather be doing 40mph while riding a couple of foot away from trees each side of you, in thick mud/loose gravel.

Thats what you should be using a DT for, not riding down a long stretch of road wringing its neck tring to get to the astounding top speed of 85.1 mph.

[edit] Should have noticed you're getting the dtx. In which case, the dt stil isnt built for speed, its build for light offroading, and when on the road its made for wheelies and arsing about..

Are you getting it new?

If so, your first five hundred miles are probably going to be limited to 40mph or so anyway.

If you want a bike that needs constant maintenance, yes.

If you want a road bike with a higher top speed, get a road based sports style bike.

(fully) de-restricted ive been told (by a reliable sourse) that the DT125's are caperble of reaching 95+, even 100 on a good day! But you will only find out, if you fit a seperate speedo (one which gives a reading about 80mph)

btw i havent tried this as i have got a DT (yet) Wink but i soon will be! Thumbs Up Cool

Ye the guy i spoke to, said it depends on rider weight. But he said 95mph was gained by just a normal rider (male), but his gf is very light and she got close to 100mph. Cool

But i wouldnt relie on the standed speedo, as that only gos to 80mph, im going to wire up a seperate digital speedo so i can see 'for certain' what im getting out of it! Wink Thumbs Up
