How can a 'sports' exhaust loose nearly 50% of the BHP Confused

How much for Dynojet and K&N? Expensive?

Never seen a can cause as bad a power loss as that, you sure the bike wasn't down on power before?

You should have noticed a 30 odd bhp loss as soon as you road the bike after fitting the can? Confused

Did you have to use any gasket sealer when you fitted the can, too much of this and you can block the pipe, restricting the flow. Wink

Quite easy for a "sports" can to loose you power. Not like most of those making them have any real knowledge of exhausts. But I really cannot see it loosing 40 odd hp without a serious problem. Cleaning the jetting up might well help get some of that back but to be honest I would be looking for a more serious problem.

As an aside, when the Bandit was in Ride magazine, one of the Bandits they dynoed was well down on power but the dyno curve was very smooth and the owner hadn't noticed.

All the best

Keith

and he's never lived it down Laughing , he's on the Bandits owners site, turned out that someone had messed with the carbs and he wasn't getting full travel. Went from 70 to 110hp in half an hour, everbody swore at first he'd got a 600 engine in Mr. Green

Hi

He wasn't too chuffed about it. We did check things on the day to ensure it was a 1200, and also clocks and things to see if it was an import from a dodgy low power market. We were close to swapping the CDI unit with another bike to check that.

All the best

Keith

Well i put the can on it after having an off and bending the old one so wasn't riding the bike for a while so didn't notice although i have noticed that when were going fast ie the other night we were coming down the A1 at about 2-3 in the morning at 120mph and it didn't feel like it had any power after that so thought something might be wrong but the guy said that the air/fuel mix is well out ( don't know what it's measured in but the air/fuel mix should be 13.. and mine is up at 14 - 15 so is running lean) and that this would cause such a huge loss in power and said that he should be able to get the power back with the dyno kit and filter aswell as making it feel alot nicer so hopefully on tuesday i should have a 90+ hp bike back Praying

Nothing wrong with Remus cans, they're one of the better ones.
Get the jetting sorted, but there may well be another problem going on. Valve clearances, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, they all been changed / set? Carbs balanced?

I noticed his bike lacking, especially on the motorway the other night as we were cruising at 120mph this was at 2/3am btw and when i accelerated to 130mph to get past this car it looked like he was struggling and when we stopped he said that after 120 there wasnt much power left and i told him that it shoal be pulling hard to 140 then creep up after that.

We had a 30 to 100 race today on the way back and i was about 20metres in front but you could tell that at higher speeds that there was a big difference.

The guy reckoned that it wasnt automatic but a slow decrease in power and since its been winter and he has been doing most of his riding through town it would be difficult to notice.

but the most important thing is that my bike is faster Very Happy

My wolf road legal can sapped the power of my 955i from 115ish bhp to 82 bhp.

I removed the baffle and the DB killer, and back up to 115bhp. Smile

It did but my brother had his done aswell and they said that it didn't need anything done to it unless he wanted them to clean up the bottom end, but the night before it wasn't pulling hard from 120mph+ and really felt like there was nothing left where my brothers was so thought something might be up so will just wait and see what happens on tuesday

you will find your valves will need to bed in if some of them have been changed. but with any after market exhausts you need to jet it correctly, or you will loose power
