Yesterday my Dad picked up his new CB1300, it looks fucking gorgeous, he has the Blue version, which actually does look pretty smart, got a Scorpion Can on it and so he let me have a go on it.
I'm only used to a 33BHP Bandit, so getting on a bike with an engine 700cc bigger than mine, with an extra 80BHP and lots of torque was a scary prospect, I got on it and it felt really nice to sit on, nice and upright, I slipped it into first and cautiously set off, the power delivery is really smooth because of the Fuel Injected engine, I came up to the junction and noticed the first difference. There is virtually no engine braking compared with my 600, oprobably because it has a bigger engine, but fortunately this bike is fitted with ABS brakes, which thankfully I didn't have to use yesterday.
I got out of the 40MPh speed limit and opened it up for the first time...WOW! My arms were haning on for dear life as this subdued seeming bike finally let rip, next minute I was way above the speed limit and as it is an unfaired bike I had a lot of windblast, it was an excillerating experience, one I have never been before, UI was grinning like a cheshire cat! I slowed back down to 60MPH and sat behind some traffic, I saw a clear spot and opened the bike up in 5th gear (it only has a 5 speed gearbox), there was a slight delay from pulling the throttle to the acceleration (Could be the fuel injection delay) then all of a sudden I was past that car on my way to higher speeds! I couldn't believe it, I never knew a human built machine could have this much power and anger.
I got to the town I envisaged to visit and slowed to 30, it is a really good bike at slow speeds, probably better than my Bandit and it was lovely to cruise about on. I got out of the 30 limit and opened it up again in 2nd gear, OMFG, the front wheel came up and I shat meself, have never pulled a wheelie in my life and this was exhilerating, I zoomed along the road back to my house and couldn't believe all of this power.
In conclusion: - This bike has 2 modes of riding, either selectable by the individual rider.
First Mode: - It is a good cruising and touring machine for steady Sunday rides.
Second Mode: - Open that throttle just a little before and you have the meantest machine ever built*.
*Of course I only have experience of 3 bikes, but it was the meanest I have ridden.
9/10 - Muscle Bikes for the win "I want that one".

Hardly comparable, this isn't about my first time on a 125cc motorbike on a motorway, it is a review of a bike, like many other people have done before. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. I rode a ZRX1200 around for a while once, they are great fun. Bit of a handful to turn at slow speeds, but as you noted, they have a rocket under the seat, and you hold the 'on' button in your right hand, regardless of gear or RPM. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |
