I've hit the "Dull Factor"...

I've got so bored of bikes, and so bored of not knowing anyone to go for a ride with that I'm just thinking of jacking it all in.

I started riding in October, so I didn't really get any good weather from the get go. I've ridden through snow, ice, freshly gritted roads. I've binned it at 25-30 into the back of my mates car, and I've ended up spending loads on the bike to keep it running and in good nick.

Now when I go for a ride, I twist the throttle and nothing. I know it doesn't help that it's a marauder, and therefore as slow as sin anyway. I'm not going to do anything stupid to it to make it faster. I'm just bored stiff. The only excitement I get is finding a corner and going progressively faster around it till I'm pretty much at peg down, and even thats boring because the pegs are so low.

I dont dare go to leeds of sheffield to meet up with someone else because A) it'd take ages on my bike that can only do 60 when you thrash its tits off and B) I'd hold everyone up. Even people on an RS50. There used to be a dude locally I met at work with a bike, but he's binned it and I never ended up going for a ride with him.

I dunno, I guess this is just late night depressed ranting. I know the majority of you lot have also had to get through the same winter as me, and the same conditions. I'm sure other people are happy at being in the same boat.. but I dunno.

I want to do my test but I'm struggling to get money together - and I'm sure I'd fail first time.

The combination of being on a bike less exciting than you'd like and the weather being crappy isn't a great start for your fun factor. At least wait until the weather gets better, things are so much more fun. Get your test passed and get something you really want to ride.

When the weather pics up get a 2 stroke, generally fast and possibly more 'fun'?

If your in to sport bikes anyway. That will be a good test for the summer, and if you liked what you got, sell the stroker and do your test (even sit out the next winter if you have to saving money , you wont be missing much )

Im in the exact same position as u bro.

I got a bike that does 0-60 in about 5 years, its top speed is just 60, when im redlineing the fuck out off it, None of my m8s ride anymore as they have binned it in some way. Im sick of this shitty weather and having to wear so many fucking clothes I cant even walk properly. I have no money even lough im 17 on feb 4th so I dont think ill be getting a bigger bike till ages. Hell I dont even no if its a good idea to get a big bike couse ill probably kill myself on it.

But im still gona stick with bikes, because I love them that much, Id rather die on a bike than be sitting at the age of 90 infront of a fire place in my rocking chair with a blanket wraped around my waste thinking, what a shit life I have lived.

All your experience is riding through winter. Just you wait 'till the dry roads come. You will have learned so much about riding your bike in the last few months that you will be a flying machine come the spring. Don't write it off, the experience you have gained will mean that you can exploit your machine to its fullest when the good weather arrives, and there is nothing like it. A winter riding teaches you so much about bike control and reading the road that I am sure you will waltz your test when the time comes.

Give it a chance, when you are on your bike (which you KNOW like the back of your hand) and are faced with 100 miles of pristine, dry and gently undulating twisty tarmac rippling slightly under the sun, it will all come together and 'the bug' will have you.

I have stood in a petrol station in the Highlands of Scotland and seen grown men of 40 years old positively dancing on the spot in anticipation of the road they are about to ride along. It will come to you too.

I'm in a similar boat...

My riding is, quite frankly shit...

I've managed 4,000 miles in about 6 months accident free (apart from a 10mph lowside in a carpark) but I still feel like I'm doing shite, even ped riders overtake me.

Got no money to do my test, and only the money from what I make from my CG (which I crashed in that car park) is what I have to get a new bike (So about 800 quid if I fix my bike)

Spent far too much money on clothing, tools and the like, and still, I must be one of the rare people on the forum that DOESN'T actually want to die on a bike, but I know how dangerous it is.

My gearchanges are rubbish and I make stupid mistakes all of the time, I'm afraid to venture outside my front door incase I get lost/end up on a motorway.

My bike feels every single bump on the road, it feels like it is 'skipping' through every corner.

So yeah, I'm not ready to give it in yet, but after a ride tonight with friends feel slightly disheartened.

I wonder what you guys expected, maybe your expectations were too high, try and remember why it is that you originally started riding, why did you want to do it.
Mine was a new challenge in life, a way of saving some money and simply enjoying summer on a bike as apposed to being stuck in a car.
I have driven for yrs, since 87 but as soon as the OH got his new bike last year, that was it for me, I was bitten and just had to do it, I even ended up selling my car and have no regrets whatsoever, the bike to me is cheaper to run, just roll on summer

It's a long time since I got on a bike and thought 'wow this is fast' - and that includes busas, tweaked R1s etc.

Ever looked at Motrcycle Roadcraft; a police riders handbook? A lot of useful stuff in their that can be quite fun learning to do and can make you both safer and faster on the road.

Cheer up guys! It's still a laugh . I like riding in the winter, and wearing the michelin outfits. Makes me feel 'prepared' like the scouts are supposed to be! And I don't mind riding on dual carriageways on my thrashed little CG. Bloody lucky considering the journey I do twice a week . Last night it rained (it was forecast snow!) on me pretty hard, and wind against me, but that was cool cos of the pretty patterns it makes in the headlights!

Toby R and BenBray, I do get that feeling about not being able to go fast enough, but that fuels my eager anticipation of the fabled first big bike. Can't wait. (Toby, I reckon I'll go for a GPZ as well , and I also do some shocking gearchanges at speed). My plan is to do the test before next winter and buy the bike in the winter to get it cheaper.

I read from the holy bibles of 'fast bike,' 'performance bike' and the like and whistfully wonder what it would be like to go faster than a pizza boy.

I think of riding like shagging. Sometimes it's exciting and theres nothing better, thrashing away with your skinny ass waving in the air, and sometimes the fun wears off a bit and you just want to use your dick for a piss.

I commute through london on my cg and sometimes i get my gear on and stare out of the window at the rain/ frost/ whatever and wonder what the hell i'm doing.

this morning i took the tube (birthday drinks tonight don'tchaknow) and the fattest dude on the planet used me as a moist arm rest.

reward 'future you' with some fine riding and great times.

that's what it's all about.

I think you should either change your bike, or change the way you ride it.

How about heading off into the countryside exploring, taking random directions at junctions.

wrap up warm and it will still be fun if the sun is out

try riding in town in the middle of the night when there is no traffic also fun

I know the feeling, I hated riding 125's around, something that barely hits 60 etc.

Then I passed my test and got a big bike, got bored, got another then got bored and got the bike I allways wanted.

Twist of the wrist is a lot more useful on track, but gives a lot less advice regarding how to ride relatively fast on the road without ending up splatted.

I wouldn't write off 125s. You can have great fun on them. There are a lot of people on this forum who own 'big' bikes but keep a rediculously basic, sub-125cc bike too to play about on. Myself included (Honda H100), it is an absolute hoot to throw about on the back roads.
