With helpful comments from members (thank you guys) and finally getting a hold of someone from Keihin and what they described over the phone, my confusion about these carbs is clearing up.

Here in these updated pictures is what I understand about the doo-hickeys and orifices on this carb.

If anyone agrees or thinks I'm wrong, chime in please.

No no no. Wink

Generally the take off's to ballance carbs are on the inlet to the head, where the carb rubbers mount onto the head. Will usually be either covered with a small bolt, or a small piece of hose with the end blocked. Well, on the ones I've seen anyway.

What you have labelled as the choke 'nipple' looks the fuel feed pipe. The choke is the arm just below the 'CR' letters cast on the body. The 'black nipple' is the bit at the end of the arm, on the left side of the pic. Operate the arm to see it slide up and down.

The choke adjustment is via the fixings on the arm. Either the position of the pvot or the screw on the end. If the screw on the end, looks like there is something missing. You need a diagram from the OEM I think.

Re no,no, no.

Different ball park. As said - The mixture take offs will be on the manifold, but these are used for measuring the mixture.

The mixture screw is what's used to adjust the slow running mixture. A.k.a Idle mixture screw.

Not sure whats under the caps indicated, but these seem a little high on the carb to be the idle screws. I would leave them alone until you know for sure.

What's under the bit off sealing goo down the bottom next to the N in Keihin? That looks like a removable seal to me. And is closer to where I'd expect the mixture screw to be,

But - I haven't played with these carbs before. What's the application? Are you swapping carbs on your bike? And the age old question - which bike?

Hi

Those are not the vacuum take off point for balancing the carbs. Those caps are over the end of the bar that operates the throttles. Basically the bar turns and pulls up the throttle slides. I do not know, but possible that there is something under that cap to allow you to adjust the connection between the bar and the slides to synchronise them (ie, balance them), but this is unlikely. I would expect the adjuster to either be between the carbs on the bar or under the caps on the very top of the carbs.

I agree with BFG on his choke comments. Fairly certain they are not the fuel feed, but not a clue what they are for.

All the best

Keith

Ah! - This would be where the next carb would connect if they were going onto a four or six cyl engine. If so, best leave it covered.

That black pipe inlet (or outlet) is a puzzle isn't it?

Re the whole "cap" thing. I'm guessing keihin have advised to remove a cap somewhere? Because they are often sealed at the factory for the American market emmission laws. So the puzzle is we are looking for something that needs removing - is that the right question?

Edited:
D'oh! Just seen the fuel feed pipes. Rolling Eyes

Hi

Found this labelled exploded diagram of your carbs that might help.

That was helpful Keith Thumbs Up

The idle mixture screw I believe is left side pic, right hand side, half-way up. No 44 "air screw" in diagram. So, no cap removal required.

That black outlet would be in the right position to be an overflow outlet. If so, just for running tubes to the underside the bike.

I never said anything about adjusting the mixture, we were talking about the take off's for balancing. Wink

And those take off's have nothing to do with measuring the mixture. You cant measure the mixture before its been ignited in the cylinder! Wink
