Here's some classic roads that I'd recomend. If any one else has any stick 'em up. A map and location would help Smile.

France

Route Napolean (N85)

A historic route, the road is built along the path Napoleon Bonapart marched along with his army to retake the throne of France. See www.route-napoleon.com for a history lesson. Always a highlight of a trip, revered amongst motorcyclists throughout Europe, the 200 mile in length N85 ascends rapidly into the French Alps, twisting and turning all the way to the Med. The Zanzibar in Gap is the place to go if you're staying there, conveniently there's also an F1 hotel for those of us on a budget. Digne-les-Bains is also very picturesque.

Directions: N85 all the way from Grenoble to Cannes, distance is 200 miles.

Troyes > Dijon

On route for Brits heading to the Alps and South-East of France, this route twists and turns along the banks of the Seine. Make sure to follow the signs for the heavy goods vehicle route to Dijon, it's here where the route culminates into a long series of peg-grinding bends.

Route: N71 > D901 > D996, from Troyes to Dijon, distance is 100 miles.

Frejus > Cannes

After staying in Frejus for a couple days, and leaving in the morning to go to Italy, I was tempted to take the easy option and jump straight on the motorway. Don't do it! This short mountain road is a real gem and from what I saw, a local bikers' favourite.

Route: N7, Frejus > Cannes, distance is 15 miles.

Bourg-en-Bresse > Chambery

A shortcut to the Alps, this route scythes through a meandering valley lined with rocky outcrops. A good warm-up for the Route Napoleon, there's beautiful sunshine (usually), and a great surface with a decent width. A lovely road to cruise along at 80-90mph.

Route: N504, Bourg-en-Bresse > Chambery, distance is 74 miles.

Italy

Florence > Siena

A very pleasant stretch that curls it's way through the Italian countryside.

Route: S222, Florence > Siena, distance is 43 miles.

Stelvios Pass

Legendary pass with a lot of history attached to it, some major battles during the First World War were fought in this area. There's a small village at the top that's always full of bikers from throughout Europe, with a few food stands to queue up and get your essential Bratwurst. The altitude of this little snack stop is an impressive 9200 foot - around three times the height of Snowdon. From here you descend either North into Austria or South into Italy.

Route: SS38, Bormio > Trafoi, distance is 22 miles.

Germany

Nurburg > Aachen

A beautifully tree-lined road, swooping through rural woodland to the village of Nurburg, famous for the Nurburgring race track. Lots of long 80 to 90mph bends, a perfect morning ride.

Route: 258, Nurburg > Aachen, distance is 68 miles.

Spain: Pyrenees N260

The N-260 in the Spanish Pyrenees, starting from Biescas and working through to La Seu d'Urgell just outside Andorra. It's around 170 miles of mostly fresh, ridiculously grippy tarmac, snaking its way over the mountains and along the valleys with very little traffic in sight. Some of the large hairpins are so cambered that were you to stop in the middle of one, you'd simply fall over. The construction crew were bikers, I'm sure of it.

Biescas -> Torla -> Boltana -> Campo -> El Pont de Suert -> La Pobla de Segur -> Sort - > La Seu d'Urgell

Switzerland: Andermatt Loop

A loop of the Grimsel, Susten and Furka passes, starting and finishing in Andermatt just south of Lucerne in Switzerland. The mountains in the middle of it all boast an impressive glacier. Andermatt is usually swamped with bikes even on weekdays and for very good reason, the 60 miles of hairpins and switchbacks are absolutely exhilarating. Makes Cadwell Park look flat.

Andermatt -> Wassen -> Gadmen -> Innertkirchen -> Gletsch -> Andermatt

That road running across the pyrenees is an absolute corker. Did all of that last year, plus this year again did the last part running off the n230 towards Andorra, which has got to be one of the best technical biking roads I've ever come across. From Andorra you can head south on the main road to Coll de Nargo and then turn off East towards Ripoll - The first part of that road runs through the most beautiful scenery I've ever come across (posted some pics of it last year in my Spain writeup).
