Dear All

When changing up through the gears, is it possible that if you keep your toe under the pedal, it may not go into the next gear up as easily? Should I be removing my foot away from the gear change pedal completely when changing up through all the gears? Ie: Dual carriage way from junction etc

It's good practise to keep the balls of the feet on the pegs. This way you can feel what the bike is doing underneath you, and you can hang off properly etc as/if it takes your fancy.

If you chose to do so while pulling away is completely up to you. I keep my toe under the lever while pulling away just because my first two gears are so short Very Happy

It depends on how quickly you need to shift through the box. If your entering a dual carriageway I suspect your trying to get up to speed fairly quickly. But it depends on how quickly the changes need to come.

Whatever you do though you'll need to let the pedal come back down properly before selecting the next gear, otherwise you'll find it difficult to find the next gear up. If your boots are bulky, you may be better off slipping your foot out between changes.

IIRC I usually leave my boot in place for this type of accelerating occasion.

I always keep my toe under the gear lever when I'm accelerating - be it around town to 3rd gear (then I move my foot back to its normal position) or hacking up the cogs down the bypass.
