i know they're not going to be great but at £600 are they worth considering to learn on for a few months?

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/URBAN-DZ-125-NEW-ENDURO-MOTORBIKE-55-REG-HONDA-COPY_W0QQitemZ4606418464QQcategoryZ424QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-HONGDOU-GY125-TRIAL-BIKE_W0QQitemZ4604964101QQcategoryZ424QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

was thinking of building pu a bit of experience and then knocking it out to another learner and not loosing too much money on it

I havent bought a chinese bike, but i did buy one off of ebay, and the only tip i can give is to make sure you see the bike first, the one i bought apparently only needed a brake lever to be road worthy but when i got it i was missing the whole top end of the engine, just aswell i had another bike to make 1 good one out of the 2,

Go for it if its what you want

A delivery driver who comes into work, bought his other half a bike off of ebay.

He did say the same as NSR-Rulez, in that if you are going to get one off of ebay, make sure you see it first.

He was quite lucky in the fact the bike was just down the road from him, and he went to see it before he started bidding on it.

They don't look too bad, definately worth 3-4 months worth of learning, just make sur that parts are really available and that the necessary changes to make it road legal in the uk have been made, eg headlight dips the right way

The black one looks best

The value will dip a lot in those few months as well. You'll be lucky to see £350 back out of it. Considering you've got to register it too.... Sad

theyre total and utter shit..... i have one that got given to me by a mate, as he couldnt sell it even for £50 was a year and a half old hongdou 125 trial bike, totally knackard & hadnt lived a hard life either, everything is rusty, forks are bent (one minor drop) electrics are hit and miss at best, engine is a dog to start, generally useless.... personally i think even for 3 or 4 months its a bad idea! my advice get a second hand bike from a reputable make for the same money, will be far more reliable and still be worth almost as much as you paid when you come to sell it

These are starting to come down to the price that will make them worth considering.

However, do look at what else you can get for £600, you could get something like an older DT125 which is a faster bike with more real off road ability I suspect. Also, you would be looking at a 'proven' bike, with plenty of spares available.

When looking at 2nd hand bikes I would always look at the bike first or ask enough questions that means you can legitimately decline to buy it if you turn up and it's not what they have said.
New bikes, I don't see it as so important - if there's bits missing etc then you can very legitimately refuse to buy it.

so if youve only done 70 miles on it how do you know? the one i got given has only covered a thousand or so (at least thats what it had done when the speedo fell to bits) im sure when it was new it looked a smart shiney machine aswell but a relativly short time down the line and after beeing subjected to no more than you would any other bike and you can see why it was only £600 (infact this one was a bit more than that when new, i think the dude paid about £800 for this one)

ITS CHEAP FOR A REASON! seriously dont buy one unless you want to practically throw away your money. youd be better off with 600 lottery tickets

other thing to consider is the insurance, dont know what thyre like now, but when this one was on the road it was more to insure than another friends cagiva mito evo, a vastly superior better handling faster and more desirable (stealable) bike. to this day ive no idea why! worth checking if its still like that

i would keep your money and look around!

there are plenty of 125's for £600 or less!

I picked my TZR125 up for £125 as the bloke who had it dropped it and the MOT run out!

i checked it over it required something to cover scratches up so use an acryllic type plastic in red similar to the graphix it had and covered over it, looks good for a couple of quid bodge job!

also need a ned indicator, brake lever and a screen!

Got all this very cheap and was on the road with tax and MOT for under £200!

I then swapped it for a VFR nc30, straight swap lol, 2nd gear was going but no hardship was in good condition til i trashed it!

So basically keep your eye out for bargains, especially if it only needs a bit of work doing to pass MOT, as a bike without MOT isn't worth a lot usually!

their a good bike if looked after, a pattern cg125 engine means they are genuinely reliable and good to go, not very fast but a great commuter bike, i got mine for 500quid its top, engine sounds as well as my dads bandit and that says something, the gy125 is a very large bike and looked just like the guy who i bought it off's ttr600, why not, youre not likely to lose too much money, and for the price what does it matter if you only have it for a few months

Point taken, i had planned to use it for longer but i passed my test so i am getting a bigger bike, i can only comment on what it is like at the moment...ps insurance cost me £120

Hello

I bought one of those skyteam st 125 super moto's . to be honest with you they arnot built that well. i have totally stripped and rebuilt it with some different parts ect ect, i only use it to get to and from work everyday during the winter months as i use my nsr in the summer when it runs LOL.... I have covered just 850 miles on the skyteam without to many problems, I found that the chain and sprocket on these bikes are not great as i have had to adjust the chain so many times as it stretches far too easy and often plus the swing arm when i got it had way to much play in it. The other thing about these bike are they are not very nippy at all ..my old xl 125 was far quicker...... the skyteam sm for a 125 even with a full de-restricted exhaust, to be quite honest there was not a lot of difference between the sports or standard exhaust., But i can't complain to much as it does get me to work everyday and i know lots of people hate these bikes but as a winter bike for me its ok for now..... cheers....Terry Smile Smile

theyre not going to be great but for a few months learning who cares, the engines sound, parts like sprockets and chain are quite cheaply made and on the gy125 you would want to change it to a road sprocket so it goes over 70mph, apart from that if youre only keeping it to learn on might as well as i said before for the price you cant lose out

Having just scanned this thread, I am glad to hear you're taking your DAS.

As G said, for £600 there are a lot of reliable second hand bikes you can pick up that won't drop their value.

Best of luck with the DAS Thumbs Up

I bought one a year and a half ago, CG clone. I've done 19,000Km's on it, and the engine is bullet proof. Other bits need maintenance a fair bit to keep them going but they arn't too bad. Not much resale value though

My CG clone is damned indestructable though! I clipped the wall with the right bar taking my VT 500 off the centre stand and toppled over onto the Hongdou. An indicator lens on the VT shattered, firing itself all over the garage, the Hongdou, just having had 200kg dropped onto it, just sat there and leant against the workbench, completely undamaged. Laughing I've seized it up due to lack of oil too, and crashed and dropped it more times than I care to mention. It's still in a pretty damned good mechanical condition, returning 100 miles to the gallon and getting by on a litre oil change (that's about 80p worth Mr. Green ) every 1000 miles.

I don't think resale value matters, I'll not be selling it in a hurry. Thumbs Up

the engines in them it has to be said seem to be indestructable... but the build quality on the rest of mine is so bad its funny! since i got it it has taken some mild abuse offroad as it was free and worthless as a road bike at this point anyway and i have broken preety much everything that wasnt broken allready at least once except the engine! the engine it seems simply will not die with the rest of it

It's a CG engine in even lower tune than the original! Well, not quite as good as a Honda CG engine, but they're not bad for reliability.

okay, I bought my Chinese CG-125 clone on August 1st. £1.5k on the road.

I now wish I had bought a Honda.

The bike itself has never let me down, i've ridden it most days, it starts first time in sub zero tempertatures.

But, as has been said before, it is the build quality.

The rev counter failed, and was replaced under warranty.
Both of the lugs of the side covers snapped, and I use duct tape to hold them in place. The cover from the drive chain fell off, as did the tail light cover. In both cases it was due to the screws being too short. I replaced the screws myself.

The bike has terrible rust spots all over it. It looks hideous, and I clean it asap, after riding through slushy / wet roads with road salt on.

As a machine to ride, I have no complaints. I've done just over 2000kilometers on it now, and I like riding it. I just wish I'd bought a Honda now, on balance. But, then again, it'd cost another £500 more, and the bike hasn't let me down really, and I've got £500 more in the kitty now that I'm looking to buy a bigger bike .
