Just bought one of these and it has a 40GB HD and 512MB RAM, and I know I can upgrade both, but I'm wondering how hard it is to do it myself.
I already have an 80GB HD from my previous laptop (R.I.Pieces), but where can I get RAM from? And how do I find out the configuration of the RAM in the laptop? (i.e: 1x512MB, 2x256MB).

Thank you.

I've got the one a few models up from that, they're excellent notebooks.

To check out what RAM is in there, go to Device Manager. The RAM is accessible from an unscrewable plate on the bottom of the laptop; the location of this should be in the manual. Most likely it will need 2 sticks of the same capacity, or just one stick. As such, there are probably 2 sticks of 256 in there at present. So you'll need to buy 2 512MB sticks to upgrade, or 1GB in one stick.

https://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Acer%2BAspire+Notebooks&mfr=Acer&tabid=AM&model=Aspire+3610+Series&submit=Go

thats Crucials parts for your model.

its easy to change both the RAM and HDD...manual will tell you how to access them both.
