Girlfriends brothers girlfriend (thats a long one!) has a Suzuki Burgman 400, for anyone that doesnt know, it's a godugly massive 400cc 4t single cylinder scooter. She's been having problems starting it after it's been layed up for a few days and it stalls sometimes, I had a look at it a few weeks back.

Changed the spark plug and adjusted the idle, It went alot better but it was clear the battery was pap, as mostly it would only start when the battery had been charged for 30mins or so.

She paid £500!! for warrenty from the garage she got it from and to keep this warrenty it needed to be serviced this week.

Now they're saying the reason it doesnt start and stalls is because of the cam shaft??? and they're already ordered one. It's covered under the warrenty but the service will still cost her £250 for the labour.

Cam shaft causing this?? I'm no expert but that doesnt sound right to me. I rode the bike for a fair few miles and once started it ran very well (Even got 95MPH out of it Smile )

Not starting because of the camshaft?! Cheeky fuckers! If it starts fine with a very freshly charged battery but not if it has been left to stand for some days, the culprit is obviously the battery, which will cost less than £30 to replace. How the hell are they supposed to know it is a knackered camshaft without having stripped it out already?!

If there really was something wrong with the camshaft, you'd have major problems other than just starting. It sounds as though they're taking her for a ride.

Go to Trading Standards.

Oh and if she bought the scooter within the last 6 months then it can be class as "sold not fit for purpose" old chesnut. You shouldn't be paying for anything, even labour charges. Tehy are certainly taking your girlfriend's brother's girlfriend for a ride.
