It's not disrespectful in the slightest, it's a casual approach to addressing friends.
My surname is Dawes and always been known as Dawesy to friends, especially on the football/rugby pitch.

I used to get called by my surname at school.. or occasionally 'Mmm bop' seing as my surname is Hanson. Rolling Eyes

I hate that 'pop' group with a passion, caused me soo much grief at school.

but rarely get called it, lads at college are known by their surnames, in fact I don't know half their first names Shocked
