Hey people! Smile

Got 1 or 2 more days of DAS with my test on Monday but need some words of wisdom.

Had some DAS training last Sat and it just made me more nervous about the test. I have probably picked up bad habits riding a 125 for nearly a year so I can't expect to be doing everything how the instructor expects.

He kept telling me to relax but how can you with someone scrutineering your every move and shouting in your lughole!! Any tips on how to chill?

Just bought myself a 94 cbr600f but don't want to get it insured until I pass so that is adding more pressure to the situation as I'm REALLY itching to get on it! Confused

Are the examiners "cold", like I imagine them to be?

Hope someone out there can make me feel better Sick

Cheers.

The examiner will probably be pretty cold and clinical, there isn't much scope for chat (in my experience).

I found talking to myself to be quite good for chilling out, no-one can hear you so no harm in talking out loud inside your helmet.

Of course, some people do better when not so chilled. I passed my second test cos I wasn't going to give the same examiner the satisfaction of failing me twice. Pissed off works for me. Laughing

I took my test in Bolton last November and the Examiner was brilliant, put me at ease straight away.

When we pulled inti the side road to do the manouvers he said to me "don't look so worried you are doing really well" and after the emergency stop he said "excellent, well done" I had a pretty good ride after that and back at the test centre he said "that was a really nice ride, well done"

His manner and attitude were excellent so fingers crossed you will get a nice guy like I did.

Just try to ride smooth and steady, concentrate on your obs, signals and position forget the guy is behind you. As Bendy said talk yourself through your moves, hazards etc etc it's not as mad as it sounds it gives your brain something else to do other than worry.

You'll know when your getting it right 'cause the instructer will go quiet (well mine did anyway) discuss it with your instructer, tell him he is making you nervous and why, your paying him and he is there to help you.

If you can cope with a barstuard of an instructor he's doing you a favour as the test will be a doddle Wink

Deep breaths and don't give up Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Look at it this way - the examiner's just another biker. Their job is to make sure you're safe to ride, they're not paid a bonus for failing people. (Well, they weren't when I took my test, but that might have changed by now Wink )

If he (or she) doesn't seem too friendly, that's probably just cos they're at work, and they can't spend all day on BCF!

Good luck. Thumbs Up

I can't speak for all of em but mine was pretty clear & straight forward didn't seem the chatty type but after i passed we had a little chat which was nice & he told me ride safley etc, so like aboce there just on there job, Maybe it's better if there cold because then you don't get to comfatble on the bike but at least if there cold you will want to pay attention.

My first examiner was as cold and clinical as they come, and did not have anything even resembling a sense of humour. If a smile came across his face, it'd have caused cracks from the shock! He failed me, but it was my fault. He tested and said every single thing exactly by the book. I didn't gain anything from it other than knowing not to cock up U-turns.

The second was as casual as I was, friendly and understanding; he wanted me to pass. He repeated instructions loud and plenty and was helpful during the ride. Afterwards, he complemented me on making progress, discussed the mistakes I had made and gave me plenty of advice on how to ride better and so to pass. He was very disappointed to have to fail me as I apparently had more confidence and ability than many of the people he had tested. Laughing

The third time I did the test, I got the same one as the first time. He was exactly the same, I rode appallingly, made mistakes all over the place, sped in 30's at least twice, got seperated at lights and had to wait for five minutes for him to find me (he was not amused and had a go afterwards at me for not stopping on a dual carriageway, but just continuing to a layby Rolling Eyes ). Lo and behold, I passed with the uptight guy.

Whether you pass your test or not is up to how you ride, not how far up their own arse the examiner is. They are professional, just have different approaches to customer service.

Good luck. Thumbs Up

The motivation for me passing was that if I failed I'd have to shell out more f*cking money on a re-test and possible lessons.

The examiner I had got on my nerves as well. Miserable git and he was following me in a car and not a bike.

Also I found it helped if I just treated it as a normal ride on the bike and forgot that I was on the test.

Thanks for all the info folks, but I fecking failed anyway. Pissed-off!!

Supposedly I didn't stop at a stop sign but I could have sworn that I stopped at all of them. Probably concentrating too much on not messing up. How fecking ironic is that?!! Got retest on the 13th though.

The examiner wasn't too bad. Wasn't that friendly really but wasn't cold either. Hope I get him next time. Supposed to be better than the other examiner at this particular test centre as he is a biker himself.

The real annoying thing about this whole situation is that I've had a CBR600F doing nothing since 20th of Jan and had to sell my NSR to be able to pay for it!!! No fecking transport now, just me legs.

It's been a very long time that I haven't been riding every day, feels weird!!

Anyway, here's to 2nd time lucky, eh?! Thumbs Up

Never mind, always a bit of luck involved when you're taking the test (although if you really ran a stop sign, hard to blame that one on bad luck Smile ). If at first you don't succeed....

Best of luck with the next test.

Bad luck, I had 2 bites at the cherry.

I failed my 1st test as I didn't overtake a bus that had stopped to pick people up on top of my next left turn on a roundabout. Hestitation sucks Middle Finger

On my secod test, the examiner shouted at me Crying or Very sad All I could here was '.....at the end of the road............at the end of the road..........TURN LEFT AT THE END OF THE ROAD!'

Pissed me off a little as radio was cutting out and heading towards roundabout at 60mph, I think all the helmet tapping was annoying him.

Because I was annoyed with both him and myself, I concentrated harder.........and pased (phew!)
