Is it possible to get bikes specially adapted for people with only one leg ?

A friend of mine had to have his leg amputated due to diabetes. He now drives a converted Automatic Transmission car without problems.

But, I was wondering if such facilities are available to bikers with the same disability Confused

Can you buy bikes which are specifically designed or modified for people with only one real leg ?

Yeah there's a bloke over on the CBR forum with one leg who rides an RR. He had all the controls moved over to one side.

There are a great many physically disabled riders out there and N.A.B.D do their best to help them all. A mate of mine only has 1 leg and yet he's a motorcycle riding instructor (D.S.A Warranted). Depending on what part of the country you live in I may be able to put you in touch with one of their officials, she's a friend of mine.

yeah that would be grum!!

he had the side stand moved to the right hand side, which threw me out completely when i went to put his bike on the side stand
and has a klicktronic device on the left handle bar to change gear by push button.

totally possible to ride with only one leg!! Cool

I met a guy at a rally last year who had his arm off above the elbow and the leg on the same side off at the hip. He was riding a chopped GS550 and sidecar. All the hand controls on one side, thumb rear brake and a conventional gear shift with offset rear brake pedal on the same side.

A common ones for people with a leg off are to either make up a hand-shift gear lever (commonly called a 'jockey shift') with a clutch lever on it (a bit like a railway signalmans levers) or to fit a thumb brake for the rear. You could also fit both foot levers on the same side either next to one onother or in a heel-toe configuration.

There are also a few automatic bikes (honda made an automatic CB750 but there are others).

Piccy of a thumb brake, these are available as off the shelf kits, they are used in supermoto and moto-x racing so you can still brake whilst putting your foot down round left handers.
