Aren't you supposed to be able to see it midway up? never had a newfangled sight glass so wouldn't know.. have a check now its gonna have cooled down...
If its overfilled it shouldn't do much harm, unless its really badly overfilled it will do allot of damage (too much pressure in the crank case afaik) as it is theres probably nothing to worry about (still dont just leave it if it is wrong)
Chances are there was still some oil lurking when you drained it, suppriseing how much can still be in the enigne in passeges e.t.c... ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

There's usually 2 fill amounts. One for just an oil change and the other (larger) amount for oil and filter change. Which figure did you use?
The only hassle I've had with too much oil was problems with the gears after a long ride (couldn't get neutral). So decided to do a change and everything was ok. Just me being careful though.

It's always worth reading how the manual tells you to check the oil level.
Some bikes have a sight glass with a mark, some have dipsticks (apart from the one on the seat ), some have a drain bolt to get the right level. Often you should run the engine then let it stand for a certain time.
Stands are a nightmare for checking oil levels. Even the forward slope of being on a centre or paddock stand can mess up the level in the sump. Get a mate to hold the bike upright on its wheels. ____________________ You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move but should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move but does, use the Duct Tape. |
