Starting to look at tyres now for my track bike. Is it worth getting full on slicks or staying with semi's like metzler rennsports or supercorsa's?
Prices don't seem to be too different and i will get them as race scrubs anyway as last time they were like half the price after only doing a few laps. |

Mark,
Full slicks will take a while to warm up unless you have tyre warmers. Personally I'm going to go with really sticky road rubber.
PS - Just ordered a CBR race seat unit for it (MotoGP style), I just cant help spend money on it!! I should really get round to fitting it rather than just chuck it in the garage! |

Haven't you got like 3 different tail units now?
I'll probably get semi's then, don't seem to be too expensive just quite difficult to find as they are funny sizes. |

No, I had that naff old unit off the NSR (now thrown out), and a single unit I was fitting to the ZXR. I had the R6 fairing but no seat unit as I wanted one that looked more 'MotoGP'.

Stick with the supercorsas.
You really should have tyre warmers for slicks. They can offer a lot of grip, but then the fun comes in finding the limits of traction . |

As already mentioned... Corsas or Super Corsas. Got a Corsa on the back of my GSXR and it warms up very quickly.
Unless you're a good enough rider, have tyre warmers etc (and are that bothered about a couple of tenths a lap) why bother with slicks? Plus, unless you have several sets of wheels/tyres (and can be bothered swapping back and forwards) the slightest hint of rain will probably see you into the tyre wall, whilst on slicks! |

Another aspect, you warm slicks up and let them cool three times and their dead! Throw them away. try to keep tyre warmers switched on the whole time between each session, fitted the moment you stop the bike, so as to get one heat cycle (warming through cooling) in one day, therefore getting three track days out of them.
For less hastle, road tyres. No tyres warmers needed if you take it easy onthe first lap, so you can pull into the paddock and start braggin'! lol
Start spinning up your super sticky road tyres out of every corner before you consider the swap to slicks, otherwise, no need! ____________________ TL1000R Parts For Sale! |
