What a day - Datatool alarm warning

What a day!!!

Decide to go out for a small bimble, and have a good'n then decide to pop into town as my 'MotoGP 05 review' DVD was now ready to collect from HMV.

Park up in the town centre in the bike park. Try and alarm my bike but it refuses to alarm. The light is flashing on the key fob but it won't alarm the bike. So I wait 30 seconds and the bike alarms itself. Go off to pick up my DVD, and go back to the bike.

Pushing the key fob and the lights flashing again but the bike won't disarm?! Tried and tried again but it wouldn't disarm. So in the end I left it and walked home.

After getting home I gave Data tool a ring and apparently they've had this problem a few times. He asked me if I was near a police or ambulance station. I said yes as there’s one up the road. What it is is that the emergency services have changed their signal. They now use a signal that blocks out Data tool signals and some car alarm signals.

The only suggestion I was given was to push the bike up the road away from the station and try disarming it there.

So I set back out and walk back to the town centre. Get back to the bike and think sod this I’m not pushing it. So I lifted up the seat and tried disarming it by putting the key fob under the seat and pushing the button. Luckily it worked and the bike disarmed itself.




So be careful, if you have a data tool alarm and you come to Coventry and park in the town centre, you might have to push your bike a couple of hundred yards before you can disarm your bike.

What a fucking faff on Mean while the guy who parks his bike (same make and model and colour as yours with similar alarm) two or three rows away, has flung his shopping on the floor open's the packet of his brand new torque wrench and is charging across the car park like a rhinocerous on heat about to stove your head in with his right hoof after taking out your left knee cap. As you lay semi concious and press the alarm fob to stop your bike whailing he looks at his bike at the other end of the car park sheepishly, mutters sorry bud and fuck's off in shame, never to be seen again! You now suffer from paranoia and remove your brand new alarm and are very nervous of people who ride the same bike as you

You could of course disarm it using the ignition key if you have set your pin-code

You would have to set the alarm off to do this, and possibly draw a little unwanted attention though.

To be honest, I haven't set mine yet either. Reminds me to do it now!!

I can confirm this. My mate has a Datatool alarm on his Sprint ST, on a trip to France he stopped in a service station. When returning to the bike the alarm would not turn off. After some time scratching his head he called his dealer in the UK. They told him the alarm can fail near transmitters.

Looking around him he saw nothing until he turned around to see a metal post behind him, looking up he realised he was parked right next to an antenna

He pushed the bike down the road 50 yards and all was well. I'm not sure which version he had, a Datatool system 3 I believe.

Yes I had this problem as well with the System 3 on my Hornet. It's happened to me on more than one occasion in petrol stations in London!

I've found that if I hold the fob very near the tail of my bike (where the alarm is mounted), I dont have problems. Try pushing the button with the fob next to the alarm, before embarking on the long hard push.
