Triumph thunderbird

Hi,

I took a thunderbird for test ride the other week and quite liked it, which is strange as it not usually the sort of bike I like. I have found out there is also a sport model with twin disks and a few other differences.
Has anyone here ridden the sport and standard to offer and opinion on the difference ?

No but I think the Thunderbird sport got some excellent reviews when it came out. There aren't that many of them, but I remember it having slightly different bars, slightly different wheels and a painted tank...

I think it also has a slightly different exhaust.

"Here is the quick and dirty laundry list of what it takes to turn a mild-mannered Thunderbird into a rip-snorting Thunderbird Sport: Change the 18 inch front and 16 inch rear wheels to 17 inch on both ends shod with Avon tubed radials. Add a second disc to the brakes up front. Throw away the suspension and install fully adjustable (compression, rebound damping and spring pre-load) 43mm forks and a fully adjustable monoshock. Take the 885cc liquid cooled in-line-three cylinder engine, raid the Speed Triple parts bin and boost output from a meek 69 horsepower to a chic 82 horsepower. Now route that power through a six-speed gearbox and bolt on a swell set of upswept reverse-cone mufflers to generate the necessary ground clearance. Voila, let's go snack on a few crotch rockets"

UBG say something along the lines of, the thunderbird sport is what a bandit 900 would feel like

they are very cool, not as sexy as the thruxton as standard, but much more poke and the nice triple howl if thats your thing

from what ive seen some come with twin stacked exhausts on one side, others have the conventional one a side post 2000

She might well later in the year. No desperate hurry.

Only down side really is that it probably would not be a good bike for winter commuting. The ZZR was meant to replace the GPZ, but Charlotte has not got on with the ZZR. The Thunderbird might well mean selling the ZZR and keeping the GPZ for winter commuting.
