Okay, I'll get serious.

When I did my CBT I was looking for a bike. I wanted something like an NSR or an RS, but couldnt really afford one. It took ages to find the perfect bike. Then I thought "what you want isnt going to be available to you short term, it'll take ages to find a bike thats in excellent condition and a really absurd deal... settle for something, you're going to forget how to ride soon!"

So I went out and brought a Suzuki Marauder125. It does the job - but it's not interesting. It's taught me a lot, and I dont regret buying it - I regret paying the amount I paid for it.

If you're going to get into bikes and pass your bike test, you're best off getting a geared 125. I'm assuming you're 17, as you're thinking about geared bikes. If you learn gears now, it's out the way with for when you want a faster and more powerful bike.

I'd really love to have a DT125. It's a crosser, if you dont know, but they look like a hell of a lot of fun. I'd also quite like an NSR if I was going to get a 125. There are lots of bikes out there to choose from - dont just think you need a 125 twist and go cause your mate said that geared 125's are pointless. Look around and do some research!

I cant tell you whats best for you though, you need to decide if you want speed and fun [2 stroke] or more a more reliable and slower bike [4t]. If you're getting a 2 stroke, do you want a sports style one, a crosser, a moped? If you're getting a 4t bike, are you going to get something like a cg?

Tell us what you WANT and what you'll be using it for, your intentions for your biking life so to speak, and hopefully we could help you a bit more.

well, my budget is £900, alltogether roughly. give or take.

I want a bike to go to my stepdads house and back when I may need to borrow a hammer and some nails, which is a fifteen minute walk away. Also to go on little rides at night around town when im bored and go and explore the area as im newish here.

im 22.

was looking at a speedfight 2 100cc but am not sure, apparently they get nicked a lot. wont be that much of a problem as I can keep the bike indoors anyway.....

Only just found out about two and four stroke, I think I may go for a 2. But am quite a cautious driver as I had a road accident collision with a ford transit van on my pushbike years ago, and I know how it feels more or less.

I dunno. I just need something reliable but capable of turning girls heads also, not some old 1950s vespa.

was thinking about a 125 enduro aswell but I asked someone in a shop and he said their going for about 1,500 second hand.
Ive seen ones on ebay for cheap but they look all rusted and shabby.

Ive never ridden with gears but my uncle said its not that hard to learn. I wouldnt mind. Im just stuck and my moneys dissapearing.
I just cant decide. too many options.

Id avoid a Speedfight 100 Karma

SR's are good (A/C though) id recommend a Gilera Runner FX/SP 125, Or an Italjet Dragster 125 (though they are a little hard to get some parts for as italjet went bust)

Should be able to pick up a good Runner for £900ish Thumbs Up

They sound the same as any other 2 stroke 125, ungeared that is. Obviously you can tell when a bike is geared, but a 2 stroke geared is still a ding-ding. If you're worried about the sound, go for a 4 stroke. But in doing so, you sacrifice any element of power.

Typical 2 stroke sound. I used to own a SR125, Quite quick for a Scooter did round about 70 mph which isnt bad!

Id still reccommend, to save up a bit more and consider either

A NSR, CG 125, Yamaha SR125, RS, Mito etc. Get a geared bike, you'll soon get bored of a Scooter, i know i did, and was sick of the lack of respect i got on it! Im not a Chav on a ped.

ended up getting a speedfight 100

I think the guy mustve changed all the panelling from a speedfight 2 100 WRC. It says speedfight 100 on the paperwork.

the seat doesnt lock coz the whole lock bit is snapped off and the seat has been fixed on manually with metal. its not a bad job but the front panelling is fixed on with a cable tie Confused lol

not bad tho, payed 560 and it only has 5500 on the clock.

definately appreciating being able to keep up with traffic now and actually occasionally overtaking Mr. Green

50ccs are even more of a death trap than anything else

If you're after sensible transport, get a reliable 4 stroke like a CG125. They don't look great, but they are what the term "work horse" was invented for. You can also drop them all over the place and the worst damage you'll get is a broken clutch or brake lever.

If you want to turn heads, a clean '50s Vespa would actually do very well indeed. Other wise, sorry, but at your age Laughing . You can splash out on something swish looking like an RS125 or a Mito, but as soon as you start moving the heads will turn the other way again.

The "bigger looking" the bike is, the more expensive they tend to be, in my experience.

He's right. Takes about an hour to get used to it if you're cack-handed like me, less if you're not.

Get something that'll hold it's value then. Chances are you'll want to upgrade sooner or later once the bug's bitten you Wink. If you don't lose a fortune selling your run-about then, you'll have all the more money to put towards your dream bike.
