Chain snapped and locked the back wheel going into a corner at 70mph.
Heading downhill towards a sharpish bend i set my line and as i braked i thought uhh oh something doesn't feel right then seconds later the wheel locked.
I managed to scrub off speed down to 30mph before i had to try and turn in or hit the kerb head on. As soon as i leaned it totaly went. From what i remember it lowsided then gripped and fliped over.
I got away ok with just aches and bruises and a 4 mile walk home despite wearing normal jeans but the bike didn't get off so lightly. Not a complete write off (i think) but it's gonna take some work. I'll have to see when i get it recovered tommorow.
Was totally my own fault though, the chain has been stretching regularly and i kept putting off buying a new one (i was only looking at them today from that Trade Direct someone suggested in another thread), theres a lesson learnt. |

Thats probably my biggest fear, having a chain brake entering a courner at fast speed or being on a motorway.
Sounds like u was pretty lucky really, if u went down at 60mph ur legs may of been a bit more than achey
Good luck getting the bike sorted m8. |

Eeek, sounds like you got away lightly.
Ever since watching a little scum bag on a 125 rip his chain apart while trying to beat my 600 away from the lights, I've been a little wary of them breaking. There seem to have been a couple of incidents like this involving forum members - obviously one for us all to keep an eye on. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

Moral of the story, maintain your chain. Didn't this happen to someone else not so long ago? ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

Really glad I got my new chain fitted today
Old one was in horrible condition. Wheel was back almost as far as it could go to keep it tight, and there was no chance of it sitting around the bottom of the sprocket by itself
Is it true what they say about chains snapping and cutting off legs? ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

Just been back to where it happened, theres a 50ft skid mark
I wouldn't be surprise if it could cut someone leg off. Mine wrapped itself around the sprocket and got jammed, had to drag it off the road as i couldn't get the chain out. |
