hello again people
just spent a weekend with a guy that owns an 1100 BMW (not sure what model, R reg ex police bike) and it has rekindled my desires for motorbikeage

basically I'm looking to spend as little as possible on a 125 (preferably 2stroke),
I'm 17 fairly soon and shall take my CBT as soon as I work out what battle plan to take with regards to bikes.
I'm 6'4 with a 34" inner leg, and worry about not fitting on "sports" 125s, (don't say "im 6'2 and fit fine", I was sitting on a train with a guy who's 6'2 today, he had no problems fitting his legs between seats, I couldn't physically sit down for more than 10 minutes at a time)
I am poor and thus money is an issue, including insurance (I don't actually know how bike insurance works)
PLEASE dont tell me to get a CG Smile
I have been recommended trail bikes, but I know nothing about them, and what prices etc.
so, throw some models at me, and also some recommendations on where to look would be fantastic (I live in sheffield, the biketrader seems to lack anything near and I know nothing of local dealers, other than that there's one down my road, but I think that's new/nearly new rather than used)
thank you very much in advance, any information you could throw at me will be useful I'm sure.

It's a 4 stroke, but the Varedero is quite a big bike for a 125.

DT125s are quite common, cheap plus they're 2t so not too slow.

The NSR is pretty roomy for a sports style bike.

Otherwise, I'd look at the DT125 or KMX 125 for 'popular' bikes, quite a few faster and less found trail style models out there.

But only if you've got lots of money to lose on depreciation.

I'm sure they do offer a lit bit more over a £500 DT, but for everyday riding I doubt it's worth it in my opinion.

Not so good as a bike to 'learn' on.

official: I hate my mother

she saw me looking at bikes, and asked me if Iwas excited..I replied "no, its depressing, they're so bleddy expensive"
she replies with "don't be depressed be excited. Get your provisional and a CBT booked..I can't tell you anything else"
me: "....blah?!"

grrr

I'm terrified that if she does get a bike it'll be a really odd one.
(she used to ride a honda c90, lol)

I havent found a DT for any less than £1200 though?

nothing wrong with cub 90's faster than 2grand replicas like rs50's and we have had ours for nearly 13 years its been riden hard offroad mainly and my mum use to travel hundreds of miles on it and never had a problem except for a duff spark plug cheap to run and high mpg to and they dont even mind being pinned open for miles at a time.

hmmm are DT125s fairly reliable? I might be able to "borrow" an old one for free (when I say old I mean 15+ years)
think it'd be worth it?

also, I know next to nothing about kit. How would I best go about getting myself kitted up in something sensible for mainly city riding, and something that I won't have to get changed from for college.

cheers Smile

If you look after them, they should be fine.

I doubt there are many differences in the engine of a £3.5k brand new DT as a fifteen year old one.

Free is always an excellent price Smile.

You can get cheapish jackets etc from places like J&S.
Could be worth looking at armoured denim style protective jeans.
Some sturdy boots, gloves and a helmet are a must.
