quick bearing question

are top and bottom racer bearings (sterring head) the same?

also, anyone got some old FZR600 (89?) steering bearings?

No reason that they must be the same (and fairly certain that they are not on the FZR). Sorry but I think I chucked the old ones from my FZR in the bin.

my ex's mum works in a bearing + chain company (handy ) but i can't take the bearings out my bike (job and a half) to get them sized up, to put them back in.

to replace them a week later

This site has part numbers that they say refer to the bearing codes, so see if 4705 and 5505 mean anything to your mother.
