just wondered what peoples experience are of using it?

I have never tried this as I had already found that balls out works/worked very well for me!

But in the scheme of things it could work, its just another method such as fartlek/interval training. Just gotta see how it treats you as a person.

May however make you much more tired upon training to heart rate schedules to start with so as with usual training just stick to it and use that training to advance yourself!

I cant train right now, and as such will be training to a few different fitness plans a year just to jump it about a bit. Wont say owt else as you seem to know as much as me about training! Thumbs Up Karma

When I started training I used to just go mad at it hard as possible and pay no attention to heart rate. When I switched to the machine controlling the rate at which I worked (ie 85% max recommended heart rate for my age) I never noticed a difference in terms of the level of fitness I obtained. I did however find workouts easier and recovery more comfortable.

Needless to say I haven't trained for a while and may be a little rusty in terms of the technicalities Smile

actually i have found the opposite, recently i have been training using a 10km row as my marker and aiming for 40 mins (2 mins per 500m) and tried to keep this, today i did the same distance but just concerntrating on keeping my HR at 170 ish and found that it was a lot easier, my hope is that aslong as i keep the heart rate the same the distance will increase as i get fitter, rather than trying to guess my inprovement and go for smaller split times and run the risk of over training. plus the training program that i have got has a lot of varied HR work, including some pieces at 90%-100% max HR! Shocked

I think this may just be a calorie burning technique actually, I mean it is better for your fitness the longer you can go balls out for in my opinion. You wouldnt see me on the pulse monitor checking that I was sticking at a certaing pulse rate for the full duration of my training thats for sure, I go more by feel!

If it gets you over the needed distance quicker and better off as you are paced then sounds like it is working, just up the distances every week!

I was told differently. Its all about increasing what the body can handle. And in terms of increasing CV performance this is operating at or around 85% of what your heart do.

To burn calories I believe the optimum is actually 65%ish of your Max heart rate.

However I am no expert and next chance I get will ask my Sports Science* mate for clarification Thumbs Up .

whatever you do you burn calories, the important bit is where this energy comes from, when exercising as a slow pace (130-140 bpm) you are burning approximatly 40% carbs and 60% fat, the fat percentage decrease and the carbs increases as you triain harder, as at high exercise levels (160-170 bpm) you burn 80% carbs 20% fat, so to loose wieght you want to be doing long, low intensity work outs.
though i think this changes in anaerobic exercise as the muscles get energy from themselves in glycogen stored, which is broken down by lactic acid.

That sounds familiar - he always goes on about the difference between anaerobic and aerobic excercise Thumbs Up

Then again the easiest* way to lose weight safely is by improving your metabolism which involves short high intensity weights - which goes against conventional thinking and with a calorie controlled diet.
