Get her a biiiiiiiiiiiig kitsch plastic ring from one of those gum ball machines, propose, then explain that it's not the real one and she can choose her own. Laughing That's how I got proposed to Mr. Green

Let her choose, but remember she probably wont give a toss how much you earn.
If she chooses a ring say for £800, I shit you not there is one in the next shop almost the same for £2-300.

oH AND GOOD LUCK

Let her pick the ring mate. My wife bless her, I was not earning much in the way of money I was prepared to take a loan out for a ring, but she picked a small cheap £50 ring that she loved to bits Thumbs Up

Best of luck mate, and belive me, what costs a fortune in one shop, you can find/haggle cheaper in the shop next door!

I picked the ring for my ex, and while she loved it, and had no complaints, indeed even said it was what she would have picked, she did express a desire to have picked it herself.

Spend a lot of time looking at them with her and get a feel for what she likes... then you decide if you know her well enough to pick it or not.

I did hear a suggestion a little while ago which I thought was rather a good one. Simply buy the diamond (or alternative stone depending on what your girlfriend likes) and then when you propose offer her the stone as you would a ring. Then, she gets input into the design of the ring itself but equally, you get kudos for choosing a beautiful stone just for her Smile

Well, that's the idea anyway.... Personally I think it's a very good one. But then I'm a control freak who has very particular tastes Very Happy

Let her choose. What if she hated it? She probably wouldn't say anything and would have to wear it everyday!

Thanks for that Very Happy - we're off on holiday on December Cool (week before Christmas) so think I'll wait til then... she's a bit of a shoe-a-holic so reckon I could propose to her with a flip flop in a box, shows I've thought about it and guarantee no-one's done that before lol. There is a sporting chance that I'd get beaten about the head with it though

cheap ring she's gonna love no matter what it looks like and everyone's happy.(remember to tell your mam and dad first though)

I decided to buy the ring first, nice and simple solitaire diamond, can't go wrong with a nice diamond Thumbs Up took 6 months cos after I'd decided it was too expensive what with paying for the holiday I'd wait til Valentines. Best things come to those who wait an all that lol.
