Ok do u think its a wise idea for me to do this journey or will my bike overheat and die in the middle of no where?

Its an RS125 so its destined to fall apart

Anyways thanks

Neil

Well, I've never witnessed an RS125 doing more than 100 miles without breaking down at some point. Don't let that put you off though Wink

If you don't thrash it too much, and give it a good service before you go you should be fine.

As long as you dont try to rag it too much + give it a good pre ride check you should be all right! (rich coming from me, who can never be arsed to do a pre ride check!).

Managed to get up to fort william from leeds on a CG125 without using motorways last summer. It caned my arse, took ages, but I got up there + back without too many problems. Not too sure about an RS125 though. Get some breakdown cover + take some tools before you go if you're worried.

It got flustered at one point going over the southern uplands, so I had to rest it for half an hour, but apart from that it was fine!

I used to commute from Manchester to Wolverhampton on my NSR 125. It was fine, infact, it was great!

I would advise that after a tankful of fuel, fill up and let the engine cool for a quick half hour. Saying that, on an RS, you may well be ready for a break anyway!

I would recommend break down cover, you never know what lies ahead! Thumbs Up

You're going to want a stop-off anyhow I would imagine. It used to take me just over 4 hours from Huntly to Edinburgh on my Jawa 350 (65-70mph, but can do that up hills and into the wind too). Then it is another 2 hours or so down to Newcastle. If you aren't used to long journeys, you are going to be pretty knackered after six hours plus in the saddle on a 125cc bike

Assuming you are on L-plates, you won't be allowed to use the M90 like I did which means you have to go from Perth to Edinburgh some other way.

That said, there is no good reason the bike shouldn't get you there and back, just don't rag it. Find a decent cruising speed where the engine isn't labouring too much and stick to it. A 2-stroke will usually tell you if you need to back off a bit by getting a bit raggedy.

I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles.
