I suppose it depends how long/far you are willing to go out of your way.

I don't know many roads in Wales but I have been to North Wales. There is a nice route if you go across to Chester and along the motorway 'till you hit the A494 (boring motorway stuff 'till there). Drop down through Ruthin to the A5 then hang a right to Betws-y-coed.

Betws is quite picturesque and there are loads of B&Bs. I stayed in one called Bryn Bella last weekend which is very nice (if a bit full of fluffy toys).

Carrying along the A5 a couple of miles, hang a left at Capel Curig to hit the A4086 then follow it round to the right (signs for Llanberis) to take you up over Llanberis Pass.

Then hang a left down the A487 along the coast to Ffestiniog to join the A470 and take you out of North Wales.

The A470 is a decent and very scenic sweeping A-road that takes you right down into the middle of Wales. I have been down it as far as Llangurig, can't vouch for the rest of the route but the 470 goes all the way to Cardiff. If This Site which covers the southern part of the A470 is anything to go by, it is just as good.

It rained quite a bit, but there was no snow. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be doing a rally report when I remember to take my CD with the pictures on back from work.

You want to get on the A483 Sam.

It goes right down the middle from Chester to South Wales, via Builth Wells and the Brecon Beacons.

We drove back up it a couple of weeks ago coming home from a party in Newport cos we're going to be riding down it in May for the Welsh Show. It's a fantastic road!

it iwll lead you into brecon Very Happy from there you have a choice to cardiff, a470 fast sweepers, or the long way round via aberdovery but some of these are secret Wink when you get to cardiff give us a shout and ill tell you about them! Laughing Laughing

Agree with Babyyam on the A438. This is easily one of the best roads in the country.

You'll be just up the road from me.

From Shrewsbury you can take the A49 south its an OK road, down past the Church Stretton Hills, Craven Arms and on down through Hereford there's some good stretches and nice scenery, it's virtually a straight road down although as the guys have said the 483 is a cracking run and then you can head out over the Brecon Beacons if you want some real scenery.

Either way should be a good trip

Thumbs Up
