Depends on:

Area
Type of storage of bike
Make of bike
Year of bike
Price of bike
Level of cover
Past claims/etc

And many other things, afraid you're asking a bit of a broad question.

You're best off going to www.biketrader.co.uk, clicking a bike you like, and selecting the 'comapare insurance' link for some rough quotes.

And then do the same on autotrader with a 1000cc car.

In pretty much all situations, yes.

The car would probably be twice as expensive.

My bike is alot cheaper then my car to insure, but on the other hand I found larger cars to be cheaper to insure then small 1.0 hatch's, hence I have a 1.8 sierra.

Cheers

My NSR costs £585 to insure at 18, a car insurance quote for a 1.6 vauxhall astra was £1200, so yes a 125 sports is cheaper.

My NSR is £550 TPO, i'm 17, 1 years no claims, 3 points,
To get added to my mums insurance on her 1.2 peugeot 206 costs £1000 in total, an extra £600 than it is for just her.
So a bike is almost definetly cheaper, my NSR is quite a high insurance group for a 125 though. If you really want cheap, try a cg125!

The key to getting cheap car ins is getting on your parents policy (when they have a few years ncb).

If you search really hard the quotes shouldn't be that different.

For me (18 years old):
ZZR400 - £500 tpo
Focus 1.8 - £612 fully comp (14 months for the price of 12)

That car figure has amazed everyone I've spoken to Very Happy shop around!
