It's not to do with the actual size of the plate, it's to do with the distance between the numbers and the edges. See here.

Mine is 7"x 5" and has the lettering & numbers spaced out legally, I was told it was on the extreme limit, never been pulled with it.

When you read the regs about plates, does anyone see anything about what angle it should be at?
If it was angled up at more than 45° I fear it might not show up very well on speed camera pictures Shocked Exclamation

Mine is a 9"x3", but to be honest the letters look well-matched to the plate size which makes it look a little bigger. Plus the fact that the NSR125 rear end isnt exactly 'beefy', so a smaller plate doesnt stand out so much. Just tidies up the back end that's all.

I've come to the conclusion that most coppers will let you off as long as its clear enough. If my letters were all fancy then I'd understand, but theyre a large, bold, italic font. I've had loads of cop cars behind me, and not one has lifted an eyebrow. Only way you'll get a bolloking is if you get pulled for another offence and start being cocky - then they'll be sure to check your bike over and thrape you for other things.
