Hmmm. Looks like a typical M(ore)C(rapthan)N(ews) scare-mongering story to me.

Surely airfields are already subject to planning regulations and can be built on if the owners choose to apply anyway?

The future of an airfield site would, under this proposed classifcation, depend on the wishes of the owner. Which it already does!

Hi

Quite, but just add one or 2 houses and the site is unlikely to be able to be used for motorsport after that.

Main idea seems to be to make it easier to build on them.

Don't think there is anything sinister about it, just that it will encourage the disappearance of suitable old airfields.

All the best

Keith

i agree with babyyam. i don' think theres anything really to worry about. the vast majority of airfields that aren't military are privately owned and those that are still public, when they are decommissioned by the government they usually like to save the runway tarmac and reuse it on the motorways. at least this is how its been in the past....

Not really, just making it easier for airfields to be redeveloped for other purposes, likely to result in less old airfields available to be used for enjoyment.

All the best
