Don't waste your time. If the bolt is siezed in then it probably won't come out with one of those reverse-thread extractors.

Yeah, if it's seized then the extractor thing will snap in the hole, then you'll have more problems. Confused Better off drilling it out.

Hey, try using a dremel with a small cutting disc and cut a line acros the head then try turning it with a screw driver or get the screwdriver on the corner and hit the bolt round, Thumbs Up Dan

Ive Tried hitting it around but that had no effect, nobody i know seems to own one of those dremel things so ive been trying to use a hacksaw to cut across it but its awkward and so far i have achieved nothing Embarassed

Shouting and yelling at it might be the next plan of action

You don't need a dremel. Just buy the bit for it and stick it in a drill.

I had a similar problem, I tried to chisel a groove but no luck.

In the end i borrowed a arc welder from a friend and arced an old socket onto it.

Only any use if you can get your hands on a arc welder though?

Amazing that they use mild steel bolts, but i suppose makes them easier to drill if needed.

NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!!! Rolling Eyes
Just knock the head off the bolt FFS, remove the cover & then use some moles to grip the shaft of the screw. Stop fucking about, no way this should have taken more than about 3 minutes not 3 bloody days

ZRX61

knock the head of the bolt, its screwed into alloy, i thaught this wasnt a good idea as it might break it and mole grips are not touching it.

it gets dark by the time i get home from college most days and far too cold to be stuck in a damp garage trying to remove a bolt

ok, so grind the head off instead, & take the bike into the kitchen... Wink

Those screws ain't exactly made from high quality steel...you should be able to knock the head off with a chisel... put some of the other screws back in BEFORE ya try it to hold the cover in place.

Fucking hell, this really is dragging. As ZRX61 said, you should have had this sorted within an hour of discovering the problem.

Step 1: Take 5mm drill bit
Step 2: Insert into power drill
Step 3: Drill head off bolt

i know this post is getting old now... but ive never had a bolt round off on me, you may have done 100's and can do them in minutes. all i wanted to do was to get it right and not make more work for myself if i f**ked it up by doing the wrong thing!?!

im 100% sure it will be done by tomorrow, now i know a better way to sort this problem, Cheers to the guys who gave "helpful" posts
