The one on my bike is a metal black, square block with a round window. I went to the bike show and asked the guy at Honda why mine is like that (and many other bikes are) but other bikes you sell have the clear round plastic pots. He didn't know Rolling Eyes
I can see that checking your fluid levels are easier on a clear pot but why wouldnt a manufacturor use the same items on all their bikes ? I mean all it does is hold the fluid, the bike itself doesnt care as long as its sealed. Personally I prefer the look on mine as it doesn't look like a well balanced jam jar and I can see why people put sweat bands around them. Anyone know why both exist?

The jam jar ones are lighter - on sportsbikes and the like. The sweat bands come from racing where it is supposed to keep the brake fluid at the correct temperature or something.

They are both the same thing ultimately.

Hi

Plastic ones are a bit lighter as Marjay says, but can also be remotely mounted to avoid fairing brackets, and the angle of the reservior is not linked to the anlge the bars are mounted at (so less chance of it not supplying fluid).

Also a bit cheaper to crash. Most likely bit to be damaged is the reservior and a £10 plastic pot is a lot cheaper than a £100 master cylinder.

Nah, you probably spoke to a salesman on the Honda stand (employed for manners rather than knowledge), and the following week he was selling dog food at a pet show.

As Keith said, the square type is connected to the master cyclinder and forms part of it, whereas the pot type is a remote reservoir. You can see the delivery tube between the pot and the master cylinder.

I thought the sweat band was to stop fluid from leaking (according to Jamie Whitham.)
