I've had this rgv for about 2 years now, fallen off it once and nearly won some races. Unfortunately the bigger was looking a wee bit tired at the end of the season, motor was on its last legs and it just looked a mess, the fairings had seen more crashes than I cared to think about.

So, bike in bits, barrels and crank off to PL engineering, wheels, frame, forks and gubbins off to be blasted, new bodywork bought, new bars and a few odds and ends.

Got the engine back, also got a nice set of vertex single ring pistons, new crank and both barrels plated.

Had the wheels painted by J&S in tregarth, top job as usual, did the frame, swingarm, subframe and forks myself..

Just been doing a few more bits as I speak, overhauling the calipers, have rebuilt the engine, rebuilt the forks.. getting there slowly!

Laughing at the "somewhere"

Making carbon fibre parts... Are you shaping them from sheet carbon? Be interested to see the end result.

It's looking great so far. Thumbs Up

Looks gorgeous, hope the MZ looks something similar. Obviously without the fairing.

How much did you pay for powdercoating? I was considering it with the MZ but went with a big ole tin of Hammerite in the end.

Cheers guys,

Mark, the damper is of the usual size for road race application as you need to keep a sensible steering lock!

Josh, looks like its going to be a green/white combo in the welsh flag designs. It'll have to be simple otherwise the painters will have a fit!

The RD is on ebay at the mo Wink https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4614783056&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:UK:1

Gaz, I did all the painting of the frame etc myself after having it all bead blasted.

Cheers!
Paul

Me neither. I would have thought not, it's fairly unreactive for a p-block metal.

True. As for your cagiva, I'd take the left hand engine casing off. From what I remember the starter gear is bolted to the flywheel, these bolts can come loose and cause the rattling noise you hear. Also check the pinion drive as it may have worn itself loose. And of course make sure the flywheel nut is tight.. last one of those I fixed, the customer rode the bike in backwards! The timing was so far out the engine ran in reverse.. I had a lot of fun on it before repairing it! Very Happy That was due to a loose nut btw!

Its the photo, believe me I'd have noticed!!

Whats it cost.. hmmm

well paid £1000 for the bike,
last winter got the following parts for the engine;
straight plug TZ combustion chamber shape heads with O ring grooves, avgas only £150
barrel porting £120
1.4mm base garskets £30
shorten barrels £80
NGK R5185-105 plugs £50 a pair
Pair of gsxr600 calipers £15 off ebay Very Happy
Prox Pistons £120 pair
TZ head O rings £10 pair

this winter its had:
Replate both barrels £240
Crank rebuilt incl seals and little ends £190
Pair vertex single ring pistons £130
R5184 105 spark plugs £50
TZ head O rings £10 pair
new bodywork £150
gsxr1000 race front fairing bracket in alloy £50
Alloy clipons with removeable bars £40 (s/h)
Paint, IRO £100

Plus many hours of my work and the painters work. Will spend around a day on the dyno getting it run in and set up correctly, should see around the 72-74bhp at the wheel which for a 250 aint bad!

no the damper is a bit short to be honest, not the yoke picture where I have had to fit adjuster bolts to shortne the steering lock!
