Ive purchased a new laptop today and its got the WIFI enabled thing on it. Im tempted to buy a wireless router thing for wireless internet, will they work with 56k internet as we dont have broadband??

Can anyone recommend any routers and are they easy to set up??

You can't use a router with 56k as far as I know...

If so, it'd be about as much use as chocolate nipples.

I think you can do it with the router i have. Basically the modem is plugged into the pc and ethernet cable from the pc to the router, it automatically detects the internet connection and broadcasts it.

Pretty sure you could get it to run. Thumbs Up

Couldnt you get an old fashioned modem (one that isnt a PCI card) then have that connected to the router so whn you want to access the internet it dials up regardless of which pc you are on.

Wasnt that how it was done in the past anyway?

Satellite has it's disadvantages as well, mainly the lag associated with the radio signal travelling between earth -> satellite -> earth, and the return path is usually by 56k modem (unless you get expensive two way sat. broadband), so in essence browsing usually won't be a lot quicker than using a 56kps modem, only when you start downloading a file will satellite come in to its own.

Downstream throughput is pretty good though.[/quote]
