Hi

I'm planning a few riding/camping weekends in the lakes when the weather gets a little better. Does anyone know if its ok to free camp there? just find a quiet place and camp for free?

Can anyone recommend any good places to camp in the area? even good (cheap) camp sites?

There are several campsites around the Pooley Bridge area (near Penrith) which are very scenic and handy for many of the ludicrously steep and twisty fell passes in the area (ever seen a 30% incline before?).

The most ive riden is Blue Bank on the north yorkshire moors.

That was with my g/f and a shed loads of luggage + tent etc on the back of the GS5.

That was a 15-20% in different stages, i dread to think of a 30%

Quite impressed at how the GS took it actually, went up easily about half throttle in 1st gear... woulda pulled up to second if i realy wanted to, it has that much low down torque...

By the way, you doing this on your GS5 mate!?

With regards to camping, there will be plenty of places wher you could just pitch up your tent. Most areas have plenty of 'common land' and if you spend a bit of time looking around the area, you would finds somewhere out of the way and safe.

Alternatively, just ask a farmer if you could pitch it in the corner of a field. Ask if he would accept campers for a fee, and you may find that you might not have to pay at all.

Certainly adds a bit of fun and spontanaity to a trip!

its when ur above a certain altitude, that u can wild camp for one night, aslong as you take everything you brought with you, i know that because my geo teacher told us, i think* its 3000ft or somthing not enfirely sure tho, should be able to find it if u google it

lake district is nice, from what i can tell u could pitch a tent prity much anywer thers ushaly nobody about to tell you not to, sum of th veiws r prity cool aswel,

pic was taken from highest pub in england, think it was called ridgestone pass.. was fun until it got dark an i had to drive the 120mile home with my black visor on/up, scared half to death by the storys the pub lanlord had been telling us about the bit being haunted. gd day though

I found wrynose pass to be boring.

Very scenic but far to much traffic, I ended up doing silly overtakes at every possible chance.

Hello,

Stayed here last year, think it was £7 a night. It's surrounded by hills with a pub close by. Glenridding 10min walk away. Take booze, tampons ( if required ) etc with you, everything was very expensive in the shops. Tampons and other fanny paraphanalia was a joke... Bastards.
